Yes he did die originally but he has regeneration powers so every time he dies he pretty much just goes back to his normal self after. The process usually takes five to ten minutes depending on the severity. In this drawing for example he was hit by a truck so it took a lot longer to regenerate since the impact literally led to him being crushed completely. His weakness is bad luck and unfortunately that has taken a mental toll on him.

For context, this main villain named Midnight had Aimi’s friends do this “test” which as a result led to them losing their lives. Shadow was fighting well against Midnight for a bit until he released a surprise attack and at the worst time a massive blast struck him. His “test” was not only unfair due to Midnight using all his strength on someone who was still training to be a warrior but he was also one of Aimi’s friend. This shocked his friend Aimi, his cousin Stormy, and his friend Tadashi. The attack happened so quick it caught everyone including Midnight himself off guard.

So for a bit of context here, Shadow is tired of his powers since every time he uses them something bad always happens to him. He’s so unlucky in fact it has cost his own life several times and he even has terrible luck with love. Despite being able to revive himself, he keeps dying in a lot of unexpected ways and he’s not even sure it it’s even worth living a normal life with those powers. He also deals with constant bullying and is viewed as a joke to pretty much everyone due to how unlucky he is. He also lost his puppy when he was younger after working hard to get it only for it to be hit by a truck. One of Shadow’s third deaths when he first got his revival powers is when he was hit by a truck while walking home with Aimi, Stormy and Tadashi. Unfortunately Shadow has a habit of keeping things to himself which has slowly led to his depression and even resulted in him slowly losing his own fire powers.

He definitely had to revive himself after this incident. Also Shadow does not have the best luck despite having cool revival and fire powers. Like a pheonix he comes back but still he is unfortunately cursed with bad luck.
