🚨PAPER ALERT🚨
This is a #serpentinite #shearzone.
It is part of a #subduction complex where oceanic serpentinites were subducted, sheared, carbonated, exhumed, and coupled with sediments that we recently described on the Island of Elba, Italy. A 3ad

The white bands are fractures filled by quartz that formed due to cracking, infiltration of fluids and mineral precipitation at depth in sedimentary rocks (shales and sandstone). The 'en-echelon' array indicates this is a zone of fracturing where deformation is localized (i.e. a shear zone)

Something that I am doing this summer (and that I am really proud of): I am cutting and polishing some cool samples so that they can be useful for students.
"but you don't have students!"
That's why I am uploading them on my website 😀
