During the walk we came across a Slow Worm, which looks like a snake, but is actually a legless lizard. This one was about 35-40cm.

Can you see its head? A few years ago I created a place especially for Slowworms, having continually to leave compost or chippings bins because Slowworms were in residence. It's worked pretty well for them, and I've even found a sloughed skin in there.

He appeared uninjured, just cold and sleepy, in a dangerous place for him.

I moved a little closer and took a shot of it's head. The other pictures show even closer shots.

Sitting in the garden last night, and I hear a loud 'plop'. Look down into an old chocolate tub I'd been using for plants (which had been left tucked under my lavender bush) to see an absolutely humongous #slowworm! Haven't seen one like that in years. Made me jump. Quick snap and then released.
