A swathe of gorgeous Red Dead-nettles in my allotment forming a bee-friendly carpet of colour.

A lovely surprise awaited me at my allotment - a glorious carpet of Red Dead-nettles.

According to Plantlife, sometimes called Bumblebee Flower, the scientific name Lamium purpureum derives from lamia - devouring monster, as the flower shape looks like open jaws!

Common Dog Violets growing up along the edge of the gravel paths at Tidmoor Point, The Fleet, Weymouth. With pointed sepals and a white spur, these pretty purple flowers add some gorgeous colour along and already beautiful walk.

My current read - this very interesting and beautifully illustrated book - "The Herbal Year" by Christina Hart-Davies. The inside cover is a thing of absolute beauty!
