Flyer text: DEMAND THAT SALEM CITY COUNCIL APPROVE THE EMERGENCY RELIEF
FUND
WE ARE close to moving the City of Salem to approve a social services emergency relief fund. This is a general fund that would support ALL families in need of direct assistance. It would also be made available to migrant families in Salem impacted by immigration enforcement.
The City of Salem is proposing to approve $200,000, but we DEMAND the full $400,000 originally approved by the budget committee.

MIGRANT WORKERS PAY TAXES BUT DO NOT QUALIFY FOR PUBLIC RESOURCES
We are fighting for an emergency relief fund because migrant families often do not qualify for public resources like healthcare, and or housing assistance and are being denied legal representation when detained by I.C.E.
An emergency relief fund is a temporary, but urgent, solution to the social, legal and financial crisis migrant families in Salem are facing.
Undocumented
migrants paid nearly $100 Billion in taxes in 2022.
"In 40 states, undocumented immigrants paid higher tax rates than the top 1% of the income scale in those states"
