And we have another 2 hour fog delay today. I love these 35 minute periods, especially towards the end of the week! #TeacherThoughts
My thought for the day; seating plans need to be set by the teacher. Students will choose to sit with their mates and in most cases, this results in less productivity. #teacherthoughts
The first day back to school from vacation wasn’t too bad. As the late great Hank Steam would say, “I’m just matriculating down the week.” Though, I would say we’re only at our own 30 yard line at present. #TeacherThoughts
Real learning requires teams—co-planning, specialists, and data that actually informs re-teaching instead of just confirming what didn’t work the first time. Repetition without reflection is just noise. The same goes for homework.

They need time to process, move, collaborate, and learn at different paces.
And here’s the hard truth: teachers can’t do it alone.

Direct instruction has value—but a 90-minute block of only direct instruction in a 4×4 schedule is not teaching. It’s talking. And talking longer doesn’t equal learning more.
Students need to engage, not endure.
They need to create, not just copy.

Do teachers sometimes sound like a broken record?
If I say it louder… will students learn it better?

Rest is doing something. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. #teacherthoughts
10 more school days and we’ll head into #WinterBreak. Or as I like to remind my students, “7 more school days and a final is all that remains of 1st semester. #TeacherThoughts
This is actually really fascinating because so many times we differentiate down but what if start differentiating in a way that builds ability, confidence, and rigor? #teacherthoughts #readingscaffolds
Even in the summer, I get ideas for September lessons… does anyone else’s brain refuse to switch off?

My #teacherthoughts as I worked in my classroom today for free.
This quote by Mother Teresa hits home: “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.” We all have something unique to offer. The real power is in what we can do together.

Nothing says Sunday scaries like walking into a store and seeing back to school stuff in every other aisle. Wasn’t ready. Still not ready. Might buy a cute planner or some flair pens though.

A teacher’s day ends not with the bell, but in the echo of minds awakened.

So much of teaching and lesson planning involves clicking on links, shifting course content, and adjusting deadlines. If feels like, at least today, that makes up about 50% of the job.

For every #GAT class that gets extra funding, there should be a #DLS class that gets extra funding. We have fewer gifted and talented students than we have difficult little shits.

If it snowed enough overnight and then froze so school was cancelled tomorrow, I wouldn’t be mad. I would be so very very glad, in fact. #TeacherThoughts
Kids need love. They need respect. But in order to do those two things, they also need to be held accountable for their actions. #teacherthoughts
Absolutely despairing at the wholesale dismantling of the arts from the state school curriculum after a wonderful talk by @michaelsheen.bsky.social tonight on the chances he had when young. Trying to work out a way forward. This can't go on. #stateed #teacherthoughts #fundtheartsnow
Today is the last regular day of 1st semester. We have finals W-F. I'm going to remind students to work on late work today. I hope the students who need to take care of business step up to the plate and knock out those late assignments. #TeacherThoughts 🙍🏾
Hey parents, please don’t come at me unless you’ve walked in my shoes. Volunteers always welcomed. #TeacherThoughts
Academics need to normalize admitting we aren't experts on subjects we are not actively studying.
Knowledgeable? Yes.
But if you stopped reading critical work on a subject the last time you worked on a project... you're no longer an expert.

For someone who really does not like people telling me how to teach, I absolutely love learning about how everyone else chooses to teach. Thanks everyone else.

Over the years, planning my lessons has become less about what things I will tell and more about what questions I will ask. #teacherthoughts
