When Aya had gone back from school asking for someone to take her to the zoo so she could do her latest homework assignment, she had never expected at all the possibility of ending up with a companion such as her current one. That being said, though, Tetchô was actually a pretty nice choice for the task: he filled the responsible adult role well enough, and seemed eager to be there, judging by his never wavering interest in stopping to read every tidbit of information which came across during their path. “Which animal are you picking, by the way?” He asked her on a short drink break, evidently curious despite his expression not changing in the slightest. “I think bats, ‘cause they remind me of Bracchan.” “Nice.” Tetchô replied, nodding almost solemnly, then approached the nearest map, thoroughly checking it before speaking again. “It’s not too far from here, so we can even stop anytime we want to see any other animal in the way.” “Cool!!” Even if she had her choice, well, chosen, Aya hadn’t gone all the way to the zoo to not properly enjoy the visit, after all.
“Can I ask somethin’, by the way?” She said a few minutes later, already on the way to see the bats. Funnily enough, introducing the topic was already asking a question, but still. “Evidently, yes.” Tetchô simply said. “Why comin’ with me?” Before that, none of them had spoken much, even if he was nicer than his boyfriend-not-boyfriend (though Aya figured she shouldn’t complain about Jôno that much, when he was actually pretty legit and he had basically been the reason she met Bram in the first place). “You needed someone to come with you.” He answered, shrugging. “And I like animals.” Those words made Aya chuckle; of course he would say that. “Well, I’m glad, and not just ‘cause I’ve got plenty of time to get this thing done and forget ‘bout it till I can turn it in.” Despite somewhat expecting it, his next response made her chuckle again. “Me too.”

When he joined the Hunting Dogs, years ago, he would have never thought something like that could happen. But there he was nonetheless, in front of the man he once looked up to, right after the image he had of him had shattered. Because Fukuchi Ôchi, rather the hero both him and everyone else deemed him to be, had turned out to be the mastermind behind all current issues, the head of the Decay of Angels. Because Fukuchi Ôchi, instead of upholding the ideal of justice all their unit was supposedly built on, had abandoned the pursuit completely-- or maybe never cared for it at all. Because Fukuchi Ôchi, either fallen from grace or never in search of it at all, must be thinning their numbers too. “Captain.” Tetchô still called him, because he technically still was, and because old habits died hard. Because that was the man who had taught him so many things, and given him the opportunity to help others. “Where’s Jôno?”
It had been so foolish of him not to think about it often, when the last time all five of them were together was at that meeting, when… “Tetchô-kun.” Maybe he should have waited for what Fukuchi had to say there, but he didn’t. He couldn’t. Not when that wasn’t the only issue running wild inside his mind, even if Jôno happened to be the first in line. “Captain.” He repeated. “Where’s Jôno? What happened to Tachihara?” And then, only then, he conceded in waiting for an explanation. Even if his han was already on his sword’s handle, ready for anything that may come. “Kid chose the mafia, and betrayal.” That might be true, but how could anyone blame Tachihara for standing up against him, knowing what was at stake? The mafia part was something for another moment, if there was another moment at all. “And about Jôno… I gave him a part in my plan.” “He would never accept.” Exited his mouth in an instant, filled to the brim with fear and anger. Not because Tetchô thought he might be mistaken, but due to fearing what fate Jôno might have met as consequence.
“You know him pretty well, you know? He indeed refused.” Of course, having full confirmation didn’t bring him any comfort. Was he, was Tachihara too, imprisoned? Had they been executed? There was only one way to find out, and it was getting more information from Fukuchi. Even if going against him broke him physically, the same way learning all he had just learnt broke him emotionally. Thus, Tetchô unsheathed his sword.
