Sir Thomas Wyatt the Younger (1521 – 11 April 1554) was an English politician and rebel leader during the reign of Queen Mary I. Leader of "Wyatt's rebellion". He was the son of the English poet and ambassador Sir Thomas Wyatt. 💙📚⏳ #ThomasWyatt #EnglishRebellion #16thCentury #WyattRebellion

And on the subject of Wyatt, there really aren’t that many better sonnets than this one. Nor are there many better illustrations of just how dangerous - creatively and literally - poetry can be.

And wilt thou leave me thus
And have no more pity
Of him that loveth thee?
Hélas, thy cruelty!
And wilt thou leave me thus?
Say nay, say nay!

Throughout the world, if it were sought,
Fair words enough a man shall find:
They be good cheap, they cost right nought,
Their substance is but only wind,
But well to say and so to mean,
That sweet accord is seldom seen.
