The museum closed in 1973, and the house was abandoned. By the 1980s it had deteriorated to the point it was threatened with demolition, but was saved, restored and converted into flats.

Tollcross Winter Gardens in the east end of Glasgow. It was built in the 1850s, but fell into disrepair after being damaged in a storm 2011. It was restored to its former glory in the early 2020s.
