As I got deep into exploring the vast universe of music created by members of The Wrecking Crew, I zero'd in on guitarist Tommy Tedesco as a personal fave. I still pick up pretty much any vintage LP where I find him featured. Along the way I discovered "Guitars,Inc" which made a few fine LPs in 1958/59. Looks like EZ listening but much sophisticated arrangement is to be found within, at times third-stream jazz leaning with unusual interplay of the guitars. Think early Ferrante & Teicher / Les Paul but played by the likes of Al Hendrickson, Howard Roberts, Bobby Gibbons, Bob Howe, Bill Pitman and Tommy. And then there is that cover: because nothing says holiday cheer than a rifle spearing a wreath bejeweled with sparkly ornaments over a roaring fireplace.

This thrift shop find had every reason to be awful but given the musicians -- quite remarkably and un-typically -- listed including some of my favorite Wrecking Crew players, I had to grab it. Haven't found much about Mr. Quigley besides some obituaries, but he seems to have been a behind-the-scenes LA composer/producer. Never heard of him before this. But, you know what? This is pretty nice in that West Coast jazz way (think Shorty Rogers, Shelly Manne, etc.)! A good sounding clean, almost unplayed red vinyl on an obscure label I'd never seen before. Interesting stereo mix, with a great presence for Emil Richards' vibes and Tommy Tedesco's guitar.
