Oak Grove, AL F5 #Tornado – April 8, 1998!

An F5 tracked from Tuscaloosa into Jefferson County, killing 32.

Communities including Oak Grove, Sylvan Springs, Edgewater, and Pratt City were heavily impacted. Over 600 homes were destroyed.

After midnight, a tornado struck a mobile home park near Knoxville, killing twin infants and injuring 21.

It remains the only fatal tornado on record in Knox County.

One of the first significant tornadoes in Alabama that evening struck along Weiss Lake, damaging lakeside communities along a 21-mile path.

Despite the destruction, no lives were lost.

An estimated F4 tornado struck Greensboro, NC on this day in 1936, damaging or destroying around 300 buildings. At least 14 people were killed and 144 injured. The Five Points Café was among the hardest hit.
