The direct route from Paris - Milan was surprisingly picturesque.
This is Modane station, where the train split - the other half heading North(?) for Annecy, while we continued east to Turin.

Last Easter we took the Brenner Pass (Munich🇩🇪 via Innsbruck🇦🇹 to Bolzano🇮🇹).
The route is nice: scenic Alpine valleys, but not out of this world like the Bernina Pass.
I’m not convinced we needed to reserve our seats, either..

Up to now when I’ve taken the train to Italy, I’ve taken the scenic route.
Either over the Swiss Alps, or the Austrian Alps.
The Bernina Pass (Chur🇨🇭 - Tirano🇮🇹) is possibly my favourite train journey in the world.
