The original was a horror/gore classic, I felt it had some humor, mostly in the complete over-the-top-ness of violen and effects. I thought the remake went too far into camp, but de gustibus non est disputandum. #TwoThousandManiacs

That's certainly true. It was interesting though. I watched it right after and I'm glad I did.
Each version has its virtues, primarily hilarity in re the remake, but I appreciated how the original took its treatment of its characters seriously.

So if you watch #TwoThousandManiacs, it does make sense how it might have been inspired by Brigadoon. A bubble of time in amber, shrouded by fog... but instead of beautiful and romantic, make it ugly and sinister.
It's a better movie than #2001Maniacs imo, but played straight. No laughs.
