Very fortunate to find another rainbow #seaslug the other day. This was the smallest I’ve seen - about the size of a grain of rice (next to my fingertip for scale).

Recent beautiful autumn weather & spring low tides makes for a great chance to find wonderful #rockpool creatures - like these blue-rayed limpets, tiny cushions star (both less than 1 cm in size) and star ascidians.

About a year ago we had huge blooms of these beautiful (but painful) mauve stinger #jellyfish around the #Cornwall coast. On one day strong onshore winds washed them into the lower #rockpools.

A beautiful Polycera #seaslug in the shallow waters in a lower #rockpool in #cornwall. Love seeing these creatures.

I wrote this article for Reflections to accompany some of my images on the changes happening to the wildlife around the Cornish coast including some of the new species we’re seeing here

A tiny Facelina auriculata #seaslug from a little earlier this year in a #rockpool. One of the most beautiful species we get here.

Took a bit longer this year but finally saw my first #jellyfish - a stunning blue jelly

The #seaweed is looking beautiful right now around the #cornwall coast. This is rainbow wrack, which is a bright iridescent blue-green when it catches the light

It’s raining this morning but we’ve had beautiful weather lately in #cornwall and the underwater environment is bursting with life.

The comb jellies have arrived inshore in #Cornwall now - always amazing to watch them shimmer with their iridescence in the sunshine.

A little stalked jellyfish in a #rockpool just beneath the surface. Apparently these kaleidoscope ones can cartwheel to new seaweeds when they want to move!

Not long until these #jellyfish hopefully return to the waters around #Cornwall - wonderful things to photograph
#underwaterphotography #marinelife #ukunderwater
Beautiful weather and #underwater conditions lately and lots of spring #wildlife and the kelp looking amazing again

A few more #seaslug photos - these ones of a Polycera sea slug crawling around the #rockpools recently in #Cornwall.

Delighted this image of a rainbow #seaslug has just been awarded in the British Wildlife Photography Awards: an in-camera double exposure - one macro image of the slug combined with a fisheye split shot of the kelp environment at low tide. #ukunderwater #marinelife #britishwildlife #underwaterphoto
A couple more photos of the incredible rainbow #seaslug that’s been showing up around #cornwall lately.

A few clips from last year of some of the charismatic #wildlife we get locally in #cornwall.

Spring is a great time here for #seaslugs as they become a lot more common and easy to find, especially in the #rockpools around #cornwall Here’s a tiny Facelina auriculata and a Polycera

Fluorescent hermit #crabs - one of the species we get locally glows under ultraviolet light, like many marine animals. Whether there’s any function to this is mostly unknown still.

Fantastic low spring tides at the moment and lots to see! Also starting to look spring like beneath the waves now too with the kelp growing back and looking fresh

A rainbow sea slug on a rock
Yesterday I spotted my first rainbow sea slug! They’ve been known in the southwest since 2022 - but so happy to have finally spotted my own!!

Blue-rayed limpets often gather on the kelp over the autumn and winter here. They’re tiny, about 1 cm long each, and nobody knows why they have such incredible blue markings
#underwaterphotography #ukunderwater #marinelife #britishwildlife #cornwall
Rainbow wrack #seaweed (also called magic seaweed) is beginning to grow back in the #rockpools as spring approaches. It’s the most incredible blue-green iridescent colour, especially the fresh shoots
