Carrying through on such threats amounts to the most serious international crimes,” Turk said in a statement, calling for an end to the spread of “fear and terror among civilians”. “Under international law, deliberately attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure is a war crime. Anyone responsible for international crimes must be held to account by a competent court,” he said.

Iran expresses ‘appreciation’ to Russia, China for vetoing UNSC vote The Iranian mission to the UN has expressed “appreciation” to China and Russia after they vetoed a draft resolution backed by the Gulf states aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. “By blocking a flawed draft, they upheld the UN Charter and prevented the Security Council from being misused to legitimise US aggression under the pretext of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf,” it wrote on X. Earlier, we reported that China said the resolution “contains one-sided condemnation and pressure”, while Russia stated “the adoption of such a one-sided resolution would undermine any prospect for the resumption of negotiations”.
