Legal challenges are reshaping college sports economics, with debates over reclassifying athletes as employees and providing fair wages, NIL compensation, and worker protections. This course explores those issues, focusing on labor rights, revenue sharing, and employment models for athletes and other students in Washington state. Through various media and case studies, students analyze the evolving role of college sports in campus life.

Stakeholders - Explain the key stakeholders within the college sports ecosystem & a college campus

Structures - Understand the structures, economies, legal issues, and concepts of equity and inclusion in contemporary collegiate sports

Analysis - Apply the knowledge from the course labor and sports topics in a case study analysis of college athlete labor models in the state of Washington

History - Describe the key events in the history of college sports and the contemporary legal challenges

Labor - Describe and explain labor and employment issues for college student workers, college athletes, and campuses in Washington state
