“Now. As I was saying.” The man continues as he adjusts a silvery cross on Diluc's clothes. “Your blade is coated in silver. And what reason is that master Ragnvindr?”
Diluc replies dully, “Its the aybss order's weakness aside from specific elemental combinations.”
His instructor smacks him upside the head. “No! It is more than just that! Silver is the metal blessed by Lord Barbatos himself! It is said the first wine he tasted from our people is from a silver goblet, thus he blessed silver for our use! It is why the Aybss cannot see their reflection in our mirrors, it is why we smite them with silver on our blades! It is why-”
Diluc cuts him off, cocking his head in curiosity. “Wouldn't it make more sense for him to bless the wine too?”
His teacher snaps his mouth shut and pins him with a glare, and Diluc looks down at his feet. Muttering a soft apology.
“...because silver is blessed by all seven of the holy archons. But among all the various things they blessed, silver is the one sacred to our people. Now. Tell Me. What are the ways you can become infected, and what do you do about it?”
Diluc swings his sword at the striking dummy as he thinks. He chews his cheek before answering.
“Aside from miscellaneous infection? Most often it's Lycanthropy. Happens when a human gets bitten by another infected person… I can't think of anything else…” Diluc trails off.
“What about Vampirism?”
Both Diluc and his instructor tense suddenly from the soft voice. They turn to find Kaeya standing with a grimace a few steps away. His eye is trained on Diluc.
Diluc chuckles nervously. “Vampirism? That's not real haha-”
“Oh it is. But… Only certain vampires can spread it. Only…” Kaeya pauses, and looks to Diluc, a distant look in his eye. “Only those with Khaenrian ancestors can pass it to others.”
The three of them fall into silence.
Finally, his instructor clears his throat. “Yes, of course. Though everyone knows that the residents of Khaenri'ah have long past, and the threat of vampirism is hardly-”
“Silver won't work.” Interrupts Kaeya.
“Excuse me?”
Kaeya clarifies. “They are immortal. Pure bloods I mean. But otherwise they can be killed with silver.”
“And I suppose they have to be given permission before they can enter someone's home huh?” Diluc drones sarcastically.
Kaeya pauses for a moment, before looking at him with a glint of mischief.
“Perhaps they're just being polite?”
