When Verulamium stood St Albans was a wood, When Verulamium fell down St Albans was a town. Snow drops in front of the the walls of the Roman town Verulamium, now a park in the town of St Albans in Hertfordshire. #snowdrops #roman #wall #Verulamium #flowers #StAlbans #photography
A man with a grey beard and hair wearing a red t-shirt, khaki shorts, red socks and boots is pushing a magnetometer towards the camera. The mag consists of a frame with none vertical tubes, five of which have a sensor inside. There are two wheels at either end, and a vertical pole in the centre on top of which is a high accuracy dGPS. The grass is the field is yellow due to the drought. The ground slopes from right to left so that the mag is at an angle. In the background are some trees.
Fifty years (19/50). Ideally one should keep the sensors vertical... sometimes it is simply not possible! Here I am pushing the magnetometer at Verulamium in 2022. @uclarchaeology.bsky.social #RomanArchaeology #geophysics #magnetometry #Verulamium #VoteKris @hertshistory.bsky.social
Two members of the Community Archaeology Geophysics Group holding up the football goal net while Kris pushes the GPR underneath. In the background two more members of the group are watching along with Fergus, CAGG's watchdog, a cute Westie sadly no longer with us. The wet is damp and drizzly.
Fifty years (3/50). Here I am pushing the #GPR in #Verulamium park during the surveys with #CAGG in 2016. This is the southern side of the town near Watling Street and outside of the line of the 1955 ditch. @uclarchaeology.bsky.social @ehasarch.bsky.social #Geophysics #Hertfordshire #VoteKris

Yesterday’s sketch in Verulamium Park. I only managed 3/4 of the trees yesterday, and finished the rest off today. In the wind I could hear a fantastic blues band playing from the pub beyond the trees… #stalbans #Verulamium
Helped out at the @stalbansmuseums.bsky.social event in #Verulamium Park painting a temple. Great fun. @tessmachling.bsky.social @drtobydriver.bsky.social #RomanArchaeology #Archaeology @uclarchaeology.bsky.social

It's that time of year, these snowdrops are by the walls of Roman Verulamium. "When Verulamium stood, St Albans was a wood. Now Verulamium's down, St Albans is a town." #spring #Verulamium #StAlbans #photography #roman #romanwalls #RomanBritain
Harry the #Roman is in #Verulamium (St Albans).
Verulamium theatre was built c.AD 140 and, unlike other ampitheatres in Britain, it has a stage for performances. The area would have been home to religious processions as well as entertainment
Where would you like to see Harry visit next?
