Eve Arden and Vivian Vance in the Broadway production of 𝘓𝘦𝘵'𝘴 𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘐𝘵, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, Imperial Theatre, 1941 The pair are seated side by side, bare legs crossed left to right, in patio chairs on a front porch stage set. Their expressions are cool, relaxed, and confident as they glance out over the horizon at camera right. Ms. Arden, at stage left, is dressed in a long, split-seam back dress, black heels, black dress gloves. and a brightly patterned silk scarf on her head. Ms. Vance, at stage right, is dressed in a high-collared white lace dress with puffy shoulders, white dress gloves, and white heels. Her dark, wavy hair is parted off her face and cascades onto her shoulders. Among the other cast members (not pictured): Danny Kaye, Edith Meiser, Nanette Fabray, and a (then-unknown) Carol Channing as Arden's understudy. The 1943 screen adaptation from Paramount Pictures featured Bob Hope and Betty Hutton, but although the plot remained largely the same, most of Porter's score was replaced with songs by other composers.
