One year in: B.C.'s U.S. alcohol ban hurts wine festival, import agents The prohibition has rankled U.S. officials, reduced consumer choice and caused havoc for some in local alcohol-related industries

B.C.'s year-old ban on U.S. alcohol imports not only rankles U.S. officials and reduces consumer choice, which is the intent of the policy.
It also hurts some Canadian small businesses and the Vancouver International Wine Festival.

BC and France: Two Visions of Terroir, One Conversation in the Glass at VanWineFest 2026 Wine lovers often talk about “Old World vs. New World,” but the comparison becomes far more interesting when you look at two regions that share a deep respect for terroir while expressing it in completely different ways. British Columbia and France may be separated by an ocean and centuries of winemaking history, yet they meet at the intersection of climate, winemaking philosophy, and style.

Pouring wines would be fun.
People who pour at the festival are principals, though, or with sales agencies. Not volunteers.
Decades ago I volunteered many times at the #VIWF emptying spit buckets. Things have changed. They have stationary spittoons. Not sure where it flows, but fewer volunteers.

Trade tasting happened this afternoon for the Vancouver International Wine Festival.
U.S. is the theme region this year.
News is that France has agreed to be the #VIWF host/theme region next year, slightly later than usual, in March, just before spring break.

“The 46th,” festival director Harry Hertscheg just said. “Canada’s premier wine show… 43 events.”
