Ghosts of regret took over his mind. Kept him awake at night.
Their howls and sneers drove him mad.
When he was dragged for an #exorcism, he was halfway lost. Deep inside his thoughts.
He guessed the exorcism was a success, as only the ghouls of ignorance have won.
They brought in a priest to perform an exorcism, but the power of Christ did not compel him, nor did that of Yahweh, Buddha, Allah, Shiva, or any of the others. His gods had died and been forgotten long ago. He was all that remained: an ghost of the ancient powers. #vssghosttales
You recall she had hope - the lights in her house would go on again, she told you. The ones that counted.
New lights came on. She disappeared.
You saw her one day.

As the fire burned down to its embers, the father continued telling his tale. Silently, the ghost girl leaned in. She was anxious about whether he’s get the details of her life right this time. #vssghosttales #scififri #SciFiSat
He peered into the fireplace. Was that the last crackling #embers he could see shifting and curling? No. It was... #beetles. Dozens, hundreds of them. How had they survived the fire? Why were they feeding on burnt logs?
Then he saw they weren't logs, but charred human limbs.

Not gonna lie. Initially wrote this to be a #vss365 and #vssGhostTales combo. Hadn't checked the #vss365 prompt in a few hours and was thinking to myself "Intrepid... ghost... intrepid... ghost... how can I combine those...? Got it!"
Came to write the story. Wrong vss365 prompt! How #irksome...
The intrepid #ghost hunter crept through silent hallways, ready to banish any evil spirit lurking within. Eventually, he spied a shimmer in the corner.
"You shouldn't have come here..."
He turned to face the spectre, gun raised. Gasped.
"Mother?"
He hesitated. She didn't.
