Today’s golfing Link Salad image plays on a deliberate contrast. World Water Day exists to highlight the global challenge of water scarcity, yet 22 March 1934 was also the day the first Masters began at Augusta National. That gives us a set of golfing links in every sense: connections between ideas, and a sport built around some of the world’s most carefully maintained green landscapes. The image pushes that tension further by reimagining the course as a lush Hanging Gardens of Babylon oasis surrounded by desert. It is beautiful, but it also raises an uncomfortable question about the water needed to sustain such spaces, especially in hot and arid climates. In that sense, the image is not just about golf. It is about abundance, scarcity and what green landscapes can hide.
Today’s golfing Link Salad contrasts World Water Day with the first Masters in 1934 — a lush Hanging Gardens-style oasis set against desert scarcity. ⛳🌊

A new wave of water innovation is changing what’s possible. 💧By 2030, global demand is expected to outpace supply by 40%. But our water future doesn’t have to look like this. #XPRIZEWaterScarcity Qualified Teams are reimagining desalination. Learn more. xprize.org/prizes/water...

The Human Cost of Water Scarcity BY 2030, WATER DEMAND MAY EXCEED SUPPLY BY 40%, WHILE CLIMATE CHANGE IS EXACERBATING THE SITUATION HEALTH IMPACTS The consumption of dirty water causes cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea. Over 53,000 deaths annually are linked to water-borne diseases. ECONOMIC IMPACTS In developing countries, women and children walk hours daily to fetch water. This time could be used for education, income-generating work, or care-giving. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS Rivers and lakes are drying up, and wetland ecosystems are being lost, reducing biodiversity. SOCIAL IMPACTS Water scarcity causes the large movement of people from countryside to cities. Potentially, it could cause, or increase, conflict between communities or nations.
💦 International cooperation is critical, as over 60% of the world’s #freshwater comes from rivers shared by multiple countries. If nations act unilaterally, water extraction could intensify and lead to greater instability worldwide.

💦 Globally, the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia face the highest #water stress. These regions are already very dry, and rapid population growth is putting even more pressure on limited supplies.

🤔 What if the constant they speak of isn't just a state, but a shift in the very earth itself? #waterscarcity https://scrollbots.com
Causes of the Global Water Crisis WATER SCARCITY IS DRIVEN BY A MIX OF ENVIRONMENTAL, ECONOMIC, AND SOCIAL FACTORS. THE KEY CONTRIBUTORS INCLUDE: 1. Climate Change Global warming is changing weather patterns, bringing longer droughts and more severe floods. Melting glaciers and shrinking rivers are reducing freshwater supplies. For example, Lake Chad has shrunk by about 90% due to drought — destabilizing crops and livelihoods across multiple countries — and Himalayan glaciers are retreating rapidly, threatening water for nearly two billion people downstream. 2. Poor Water Infrastructure Many low-income and rural communities lack basic water infrastructure for storage and treatment. In Pakistan, some villages still depend on open ponds shared with animals. Each year, about four trillion cubic meters of freshwater are wasted due to evaporation, leaks, and inefficient irrigation.
3. Overuse of Groundwater Using too much groundwater for farming and industry is causing underground water sources to dry up. When water is pumped out faster than nature can replace it, water levels drop permanently, making groundwater harder or impossible to access in the future. 4. Pollution of Water Resources Contamination of rivers, lakes, and aquifers with industrial waste, pesticides, and sewage has made once-reliable water sources unsafe for consumption. 5. Population Growth The global population is projected to reach 8.5 billion by 2030, increasing demand for water for domestic, agricultural, and industrial use. Rapid urbanization compounds the issue by replacing permeable land with concrete, reducing groundwater recharge by as much as 80% and increasing flash floods instead of sustainable storage.
💦 We're not truly running out of #water, but we're mismanaging the limited supply we can access. Plus, #ClimateChange disrupts natural cycles faster than governments can respond.
Urgent investment is needed to prevent #DayZero scenarios for billions of people.
