Sigh. I know it wasn't perfect, but my goodness, if the quote doesn't exactly describe what we had way back when in the glory days of EduTwitter. Chats like #WeirdEd, #ClearTheAir, #TotallyRossome, #SlowChatEd, #2PencilChat #RuralEd

Grateful for that time of my life, I still miss it so much.

Anyone else #weirded out when they bring something up and then it shows up so randomly in life like as the bg instrumental of a tiktok sound right after…why now and why this song!? *Britney voice* It’s conspiracy I’m actually interested in #simulation #glitch #friedsky #manifestgeneratorlife

Yep. #WeirdEd.
I now do that full-time. 🙃

Number 43 @margeatlarge.bsky.social is another long time follow. Maybe even a part of the #WeirdEd days? You'll have to tell me if I'm wrong about that.😁 She's someone who has always been open and transparent. I've always appreciated how she's shared when she learns from others on here.

Were you ever lucky enough to participate in a #WeirdEd chat back in the day? Those were AMAZING. Doug had such a gift of creating chaos that built community. It was truly beautiful, and no rules whatsoever!😁

This makes me think of back in the day, when Doug Robertson lead a #WeirdEd chat in rhyme. All the questions were were rhymes, and we were all trying to answer in rhymes. Justin Aion was absolutely amazing during that chat with his rhymes.😊

Plus, eavesdrop on those other teachers, and learn from them.

@TheWeirdTeacher was also a big hook for me into Twitter. He has published multiple books on teaching, he was running #weirded chats, and he was openly admitting that he was still struggling with classroom management.

#WeirdEd A4: I was still thinking computer viruses. I'd like to avoid those too I guess.

Can I bring friends along on my quest? Also, is the quest to procure toilet paper?

A2: @Eurovision was canceled this year but the music videos are all up on Youtube anyway. Iceland's is fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HU7ocv3S2o I have other faves but that's a good place to start. #WeirdEd

A1: I'm making jokes on social media and rearranging furniture, but actually I'm procrastinating on finishing up the school yearbook, which is due Monday. It's always been a tedious task but now it feels more difficult than ever, for feelings reasons. #WeirdEd

#WeirdEd Hi I'm Caitlin and due to the childhood issue of running out of toilet paper just when you need it most, I was already in the habit of buying it in bulk.

A4: If he were such a good teacher, why hasn't he ever done a TED Talk? #weirded

This is actually a pattern for me. I do something thinking, "This will help a particular person." Then I realize that others might benefit from learning the same way, or even just by having the OPTION to learn that way. #weirded

A3: I was making materials for a student with visual impairment and it occurred to me that if it was helpful for him, it would be helpful to the 260 other kids in the school, too.

So I made 260 more. #weirded

A2: Accidental reference. I named all the desktops in the computer lab using the NATO phonetic because numbering them confused me. (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?).

A student noticed but recognized the names as velociraptors from Jurassic World. Instant buy-in from dino fan. #weirded

(Also since I don't really feel the need to reward/punish, I also don't usually take it personally when a kid isn't into what we're doing. They're only with me for 40 minutes a week; if they come in with a bad mood they caught it elsewhere. I don't need to worsen it.) #weirded

A1 cont'd: If they don't follow my directions on the computer, the computer doesn't do the thing they want it to. If they do follow directions, they enjoy the activity. Basically... I don't want to have to do the paperwork for our schoolwide clip behavior system. #weirded

A1: I'm identifying with a lot of what's already posted. I think the one I am most currently guilty of is "natural consequences." That's allowing a student to experience whatever consequence comes up without my imposing one. I'll explain further... #weirded

A1: This is a really good question. I'm just struggling to verbalize a good enough response. Here, have a placeholder tweet. #weirded

I think I'll do a lil #WeirdEd tonight. Caitlin, OH, technology resource teacher for early elementary, and I spent multiple Halloweens as the back end of a cow. My twin sister was the front. My mom worked really hard on that costume.

A4 cont'd: But that doesn't mean I won't try. Last year we had desktops but this year we can move more classes to using their class Chromebook sets in the lab. Can experiment with more flexible seating and grouping. We shall see how this goes. 2/end #weirded

A4: I think that'll be a struggle in a computer lab, just because one class comes in, works, then leaves - and another class comes in, works, and leaves, and so on. So it would be hard to create space kids shape for themselves without interefering with other classes #weirded 1/

A3: So far my system has generally been, "Try out idea I think is good, come to hate it in one to three days, rearrange everything, repeat." Sometimes it's nice to have limits like desktop cords that force me to be okay with SOMETHING #weirded

A2: When I taught in other buildings/had other positions, that was way more important to me. It was important for me to impress parents, or at least not appear like I cared less than other teachers. Now I teach in a computer lab so parents don't often visit. #weirded

A1: I am probably the only teacher in my building right now who hasn't gone in to start setting up my room. I felt at the end of last year I had a bunch of crap I didn't need, so this year I want to only bring in stuff as I realize it's needed #weirded

Caitlin in OH, very out of practice with Twitter ed chats, the woodchuck shouldn't have to chuck any more wood than necessary because downtime is also important. Full night's sleep and good breakfast, woodchuck, you'll do fine your first woodchucking day #weirded

Seriously though all my favorites would be considered guilty pleasures if I still had any capacity to feel guilt #weirded

A3 #weirded uh top three songs

1. The song I sang to myself after doing morning announcements one day, except I didn't turn off the equipment correctly so the whole school heard it. It was a lil ditty about making myself a cup of coffee

2 and 3. Other songs are okay too I guess

A2 Also as long as students understand TO WHAT END. And sometimes letting them choose their own degree of mastery. "I just want to pass this course" and "I just wanna enjoy this" and "I want to make this my life's passion" are very different levels for students (and us) #weirded
