A view to the south, from just north of Montrose. That's Mt Sneffels, tallest peak in the Williams Mountain range, framed in by by the clouds. Fast moving big ol' dark Cumulonimbus just boiling up and over the horizon and headed my way. And Sonya and I have a 4.5 mile walk to get back to our camp. Had a Doctor's appointment at this end of town earlier. Ends up being a 10 mile hike before the day is done.

A view from the edge of Simms Mesa looking a little east of due south. The Northern San Juans Mountains in the far distance Little Twin Buttes in the foreground picture right. Standing in high desert Grassland and Sage brush, the small mound in the foreground of dirt marks a 🦡 Badgers den. Look closely at the ground and you might notice the little brown spots of Prairie Dog burrows. Mr. Badgers favorite prey. There's a Coyote den about 40 yards away from the Badgers, though not in this photo...
The view directly south from the same position. Little Twin Buttes to the left now, with Red Mountain pass in the far background just right of the little tit, as its known to locals. The Williams range is photo left and Telluride is located in the San Miguel River valley just beyond. The sky was surreal with the light constantly changing. The scent of Sage absolutely filling the air! Oh my goodness but it's Soo good to be breathing! High desert Sage and Juniper's simply heavenly scents. I mean, iffin' there wuz' any kinda' Heaven other than these Rocky Mountains 🥰

These just reel of sweet fruity scent, and had a variety of different little insects crawling all over these flowers. From Sugar Ants to Beetles to Bees and Bumblebees and little Wasps. I was laying down behind this particular plant while waiting on those Antelope to close up with me. Don't know what it's name is either, but I a wee bit allergic to its terpene profile or pollen. My eyes were watering and itchy, as was my nose, as I finally headed back to my Jeep, sneezing like cannon blasts. Hahaha! Funny the things that you end up remembering 😎
This is something like a daisy, but not. Forget what it's called. I was more interested in the little Wasp that seemed to be feeding on the pollen or perhaps just drinking the nectar or possibly the raindrops that still glisten on the petals..
An Echinacea, or Purple Coneflower as I heard it called in my youth. Very mild scent that barely caught my notice, but still beautiful. The pistils are so radiant. Like little spears
The Evening Primrose. Sometimes called the Desert Primrose. I just love the intoxicating aroma of this absolutely gorgeous Flower. You can scent them from 50 yards away sometimes at night, with the wind in your favor

I ranged the Antelope Buck at 1,340 yards away from me. They'd already seen me hiking in, not towards them but oblique to their position. Towards a little knob with a few sparse shrubs, just enough for me to lay down behind and hide. Then I tricked these Antelope into approaching within 40 yards of me 😎 Within Bow 🏹 range I used to Bowhunt only. Didn't care for guns though I owned I few and was very shot. Ain't gonna' tell ya'all how I did it but the 3 other photos prove it. I used to be a hunting guide for mostly primitive weapons hunts. Archery and Black powder.

This Gunnison basin Pronghorn Buck is representative of this isolated little sub species. They're a little lighter in color and smaller than The Pronghorn of Northern Colorado or the plains. This buck had no clue that he had human company. He's looking off in the distance behind "his does" for any other Bucks that could come around.

This is a carefully crafted from hard metamorphic rock to be a tool. A tool that has only one purpose. Breaking Human bone. This is a Coup stick Stone head. It's a form of Axe. These 2 photos show the 2 sides. It weighs 3.5 pounds and would have been attached to a strong and slightly flexible piece of smoothed and carved tree branch perhaps 3 ft. long. It was often used to break arms and collar bones. Leaving an enemy alive, but unable to fight against you anymore? Carried a great Honor value in the indigenous peoples of the western half of Turtle Island. Killing was sometimes necessary, but something to be regretted. A thing that required powerful medicine for healing the heart of the one who had found himself forced to end another humans life...
You wouldn't want to get slapped upside your head with one of these being swung with speed and strength behind it. It would collapse yer' skull into broken shards of bone and ram them right through your brain 🧠 basically shredding it. Ouch. Or maybe you'd be dead before you had time to even think WTF? 🤗
