Amanita muscaria, or fly agaric, is a much-loved mushroom in the Amanita family. In Europe the cap is red while in US it is orange (A. Muscaria var. guessowii). Fly agaric is toxic & hallucinogenic. These little beauties are growing along Lake Superior. #woodlandforaging #fungifriends #photography
Dacryopinax spathularia
Dacryopinax spathularia
Yesterday in woods I saw these sweet little stringy fungi on a log: Dacryopinax spathularia, or fan-shaped jelly fungi, in the Dacrymycetales family. They are edible, but too small to bother with. They are used commercially as a soft drink preservative. #fungifriends #woodlandforaging #freewildfood
Glechoma hederacea, aka Creeping Charlie, is in the mint family, and stays green all winter. It's a good source of winter greens. Tea from leaves is also very nice. #foraging #woodlandforaging #freewildfood #wildfood
Coprinellus micaceus, also known as glistening inkcap, in a Maryland forest, in the
Psathyrellaceae family . If you are sure of the ID, these are edible up until the gills turn black. #woodlandforaging #fungifriends #wildfood
Never doubt the forest has eyes and is watching you. Actually, this is a beech tree (Fagus grandifolia, in the Fagaceae family). Its very young leaves are edible in early spring, and its seeds are edible in the fall. #woodlandforaging, #foraging #freewildfood

Verbena hastata
Verbena hastata, a North American plant found along wetlands in full sun. Grind seeds into flour to eat or make tea from leaves. Roots can be infused to treat stomach aches, fever & worms. If you ever get worms, head to the swamp and get some cure. #woodlandforaging, #plantmedicine, #foraging
Tremella mesenterica, I think, aka yellow brain. I took this a couple days ago in a beech forest. It's edible but tasteless, and can be used in soups. #woodlandforaging, #foraging, #fungifriends
