I'm loving these little vignette/flashback things. They're very evocative, and again, the woods-witch of it all is very resonant to me. I feel close to it, if not a part of it.

It seems like a very tactile youth (she was just listening at her mother's pregnant belly for baby-sounds), and while mine was, as well, I just got hit a lot. This seems to be 'good touch,' which seems like something I especially could have used.

Her mother is very engaged with her. Think what you will of her worldview or philosophy; she's locked into whether Agnes is absorbing this, and what Agnes feels about it, which is inspiring to this former-teacher and hopefully future-parent.

Cut to now. I would say that this isn't like, mind-blowing experimental art-film; it's just very evocative and dynamic filmmaking and storytelling. This is, again, my first exposure to Chloe Zhao (didn't see Eternals; why would I? lol). I'd say I'm quite struck by her storytelling voice, as I perceive it. The camera looooooooves Agnes (Jessie Buckley). And soooo do I.

FYI if you haven't seen this, her name is spelled Agnes, but you say it like "AN-yez," which is objectively a sexy and cool-as-hell pronunciation. Loving that every time someone says it, which happens constantly in #Hamnet.

We see how a #woodswitch upbringing makes an Agnes 🧙‍♀️

I think it is definitely meant to be creepy and funny. I just happen to find it even funnier, because I for sure think of Event Horizon, in the third act when everything goes fucking insane, and there's just Latin chanting in the sound mix for a quarter of an hour.

Shakespeare's students in background VO, rotely chanting Latin is both hysterical & slightly-creepy, & this whole early portion of #Hamnet has a slightly-creepy vibe I LOVE.

Again, not kidding re: the #woodswitch stuff. I've dabbled. Romantically, anyway.

The chanting is like #EventHorizon #lol 😆
