Weka Gallirallus australis, South Island, 4th Nov 2015. Incredibly tame! It posed beautifully for its admirers. Perhaps not the obvious choice. We had some fantastic encounters with Kiwis, the archetypal NZ bird, but didn’t get any photos.

The endangered Seychelles Magpie-Robin Copsychus sechellarum on Aride, Seychelles, 8th Oct 2014. A dream bird. Never thought I’d ever get to see one, let alone travel to the Seychelles. Remember seeing it in a wildlife magazine when I was a child. Mimicking the behaviour of an Aldabaran Giant Tortoise I cleared leaf litter with my foot, and the bird started foraging at my feet. One of my best bird memories.
