The bill is addressed to Britten at his home The Red House, on Golf Lane, Aldeburgh, and is for providing a new ballvalve to the WC cistern in the Maids Bathroom (plus repairing taps). The amount charged is £10.25 plus VAT (at 8%) coming to 82p; the total bill is therefore £11.07.
I see from elsewhere on BlueSky that it's #WorldPlumbingDay (fair enough, access to clean water and sanitation is vital, it's a mark of how lucky we are if we can take them for granted) so here's a bill for a new ball-valve, from Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears' copious financial papers.
