The Siege of #WoundedKnee began when members of the American Indian Movement #AIM staged a protest in the town of Wounded Knee. Federal agents besieged the town using military armored vehicles & exchanged gunfire with the protesters, killing two Sioux men & wounding several more.
#AmericanIndianMovement (#AIM) led, on #ThisDayInHistory in 1973, 250 #OglalaLakota in a 71-day occupation of the #WoundedKnee site, demanding the US gov. fulfil broken treaty promises. Instead of talking, feds besieged the site & engaged in 11 lethal firefights. Nothing changed.
#OTD in 1973, Native people & their supporters, led by activists in the American Indian Movement, occupied the village of #WoundedKnee, site of the massacre in 1890.

Frank Fools Crow (June 1890 - November 27, 1989) was a Lakota Sioux spiritual leader, Yuwipi medicine man, and the nephew of Black Elk. Raised in the traditional way, he did not attend "the white man's school" as his father did not approve, which is why he could not speak fluent English. As a young man he traveled around the United States with the Buffalo Bill Cody Wild West Show. He spent much of his life serving his people as a medicine man, healer, and teacher.

#Minneapolis is the #WoundedKnee for the #WhiteMan in " #America " The USA government has always had #fascist underpinnings.
Prove me wrong.
TBF, the US govt doesn't have a great track record in respect of abiding by agreements it signs.
Just ask native Americans.
273 treaties signed.
273 broken.
Who broke them first, in each and every case?
Guess...

On #ThisDayInHistory, in 1890, #Lakota warriors faced US soldiers in the #DrexelMissionFight, killing one & wounding a few, just a day after the massacre at #WoundedKnee, in which the army killed 300 #indigenous people. The US won its lands through #genocide. Give the #LandBack.
Your daily reminder that an atrocity is not simply constituted by physical acts of violence but also by the way it is subsequently justified, covered up or deliberately misnamed. The refusal to acknowledge atrocity, in the past as much as the present, is in itself a form of violence. #WoundedKnee

135 years ago today, hundreds of unarmed Lakota, mostly women and children, were massacred at #WoundedKnee. In 2025, Trump reinstated the military medals honoring their murderers.

Poster art of a young Native man circa 1973 and the words "We remember Wounded Knee."
PLEASE DO NOT POST THOSE PHOTOS OF MASSACRED PEOPLE AT #WOUNDEDKNEE.
Photos of dead ancestors are traumatizing to many descendants.
You don't need to show photos to make a massacre more "credible." Those photos were bought & sold, monetizing genocide. Believe Native people.
#WoundedKnee is the most famous US mass slaughter of Native people, but massacres happened all the time as settlers stole land. To think that Wounded Knee was an aberration is to deny the inherent & constant violence of settler colonialism.
You can see it happening in Palestine right now.

December 29 is the anniversary of the 1890 #WoundedKnee massacre, when US soldiers slaughtered more than 300 Lakota people - children and elders, women and men.
War Secretary Pete Hegseth recently said that the soldiers deserved their medals and he would not revoke them.
