Stealing @hazelebaumgartner.bsky.social 's response. Just me. I write what I want to read. I figure I'm not the only one that'll enjoy 'em, so I publish! But I'm the one I'm measuring the story against. #writingA

#writingA Ooooh yes. Kinda my thing.
NICEF, Taegen: "Trust Me" by Lola Blanc - it represents her inner turmoil over the conflict between her need for revenge and her growing bond with Aroi House. open.qobuz.com/track/219029... (1/3)

Taegen/Selene: Selene's heart warms every time Taegen specifically caresses her synthetic cheek then her organic one. Taegen's warms whenever she sees that happy wonder in Selene's eyes while she's tinkering.

#writingA If my pacing is off, having to fix it. I'm often lucky enough to pace stories well on a first draft, but with my new process, the story gets made regardless, so now I have to revise for pacing, too. Have to keep so much ready to go in your head to make those decisions properly.

I make a note txt file and a new subfolder in my 'in progress' folder. #writingA

90% of the time, I'm just refining the rough draft. MAYBE some scene rewrites.

I /have/ done a few complete rewrites, and Tangled Web represents a new (to me) hybrid that's half rewrite, half almost copy-pasted from a different, old version of the story.

Basically nothing I’ve ever posted in the Bluesky worldbuilding prompts shows up in the text.

But I know. #WritingA

For me, the hardest part of any project, writing or not, is always the same: finishing the last 10% of the first draft. #WritingA

NICEF, Taegen: the escalating conflict between her mission and actually helping Aroi House. Either they're expendable or they're not. (1/4)

NICEF: Diela. She has the most organic and complete arc. She was supposed to just be a throw-away hench-villain, and became sympathetic and courageous in ways I couldn't imagine the story without now. (1/5) 🧵 #writingA

Not having to burn all my best brain time at a job. Massive quality of life jump. #writinga

I'm in my cozy era and I want to write cozy books with depth.
I also write romance and that's because I can be the most hopeless romantic and no one judges me for it 😹😹

I also write low fantasy/urban fantasy stuff and I love it because I can be weird! 🙈 #WritingA

I love that science fiction lets us look at the real world and examine its flaws in a sandbox. And not just “what if racism was wrong?” or “what if man’s hubris again?” SF, either. Even “laser swords” SF still gets to talk about things like fascism. #WritingA

#writingA I think you can boil my favored genre down to action-adventure, with romance a close second, and often combining the two, with 'slice of life' following that. So: Seeing cool characters do cool stuff in cool places, hoping some of them kiss, and letting them have a happy home life XD

I think it's a rare writing contest that doesn't attract hundreds of submissions. I've never had any luck personally. #WritingA

Tch, it’s pretty unrealistic to imagine a character who doesn’t suffer from chronic pain, lol #WritingA

Pirates of the Bitter Sea starts in port when the crew of the merchant ketch Idle Dreamer are handed a lucky coin. Someone else's lucky coin. Someone else's lucky coin that shouldn't be capable of being lost in the first place. #WritingA

¿Why don't we do this in English? #WritingA

I find characters most believable when:

1. They know that there's something wrong with them.
2. They actively ignore it or do things that make it worse.
3. They are also wrong and what's actually wrong with them is some other thing completely.
4. uh oh, wait a sec

I sketch out my viewpoint characters with only vague ideas of their character flaws. Then I make them worse. #WritingA

Earth in Star Trek's 2360s? They seem like they're doing pretty well and I wouldn't have to adjust to different gravity or brain parasites or whatever. #WritingA

#WritingA This notation represents the punchcards of a program for Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine to add 17 & 10: store them at memory address 01 & 02, run an addition operation for the values of 01 & 02, store the result at 03, print it, and ring a bell when done.

Even English pubs have only been named things like "The Dog and Badger" since the 1700s, and they all seem to have been named that at the time less by tradition and more by a rapidly-propagating meme because it was funny. #WritingA (4/4)

Van Gogh's 1888 painting "Restaurant Terrace at Night" depicts "Big Cafe", across the street from "Hairdresser" and next to "Refreshment Bar". ("Big Cafe" is now "Le Cafe La Nuit". "Refreshment Bar" is "Bar le Tamborin", "Hairdresser" is now "Grand Hotel Nord-Pinus".) #WritingA (3/4)
