In my scifi novels, I always explore issues common to human relationships only I move the point of view to small robots or young aliens trying to understand from a wholly alien perspective.

Never lecture. Always allow naiveté to offer insight.

On this day in 1981, Phillip K Dick writes a letter to the producers of Blade Runner.

Mr. Jeff Walker,
The Ladd Company,
4000 Warner Boulevard, Burbank, Calif. 91522.
Dear Jeft,
I happened to see the Channel 7 TV program "Hooray For Hollywood" tonight with the segment on BLADE RUNNER. (Well, to be honest, I didn't happen to see it; someone tipped me off that BLADE RUNNER was going to be a part of the show, and to be sure to watch.) Jeff, after looking -and especially after listening to Harrison Ford discuss the film- I came to the conclusion that this indeed is not science fiction; it is not fantasy; it is exactly what Harrison said: futurism. The impact of BLADE RUNNER is simply going to be overwhelming, both on the public and on creative people - and, I believe, on science fiction as a field. Since I have been writing and selling science fiction works for thirty years, this is a matter of some importance to me. In all candor I must say that our field has gradually and steadily been deteriorating for the last few years. Nothing that we have done, individually or collectively, matches BLADE RUNNER.

Someone just read this aloud to me in a smooth and even tone, as if it were a spiritual offering, and by the end, I was sobbing.

I’ll think about this letter for the rest of my life.

I finished writing ch 2 of the Nightmonger Murders. If the 1st ch was too short, this one is probably too long. I guess it all evens out. #writingscifi #scifinoir #booksky

I'm in the 7th draft of this novel and this week the words have been really flowing. I'm in a rhythm and it's all coming together. Finally the shape of the story makes sense.

Less than 20,000 words to go. #writingscifi

I finished writing the last chapter of Ronin of Vine Street, but I'm unhappy with it. I really need to nail the landing, otherwise it can ruin an otherwise good book. #writingscifi #scifinoir #booksky

I was struggling with the climactic scene of Ronin of Vine Street for the last several days. It finally clicked today and I was able to write 700+ words. The scene still isn't done, but it was such a relief to get something down. #writingscifi #scifinoir #booksky

Hi #writingcommunity! I need some help. I mainly write fantasy but my new WIP is scifi. I got an outline, but need pointers on crafting good, vaguely realistic scifi worlds. Any top notch resources out there?

Finished an Auts story I started yesterday at 2,011 words. I expected it to be short but not this short. But it’s good. I’m happy with it and it ended with a moral that I wasn’t aware I already set up in the beginning. Funny how the subconscious works.
