The kanjis are the closest to the words I think best represents their stories: Yugi represents 'strength' - his strength to be brave, Atem's strength of kindness, and their shared strength to say goodbye. Jaden represents 'balance' - he started off "fun and games", then the trauma of season 3 made him take things more seriously, to the point where he became distant from his friends. But at the end, he learned that he can be both: a balance of when to have fun and be serious. It ends with him traveling the world, for the fun of adventure and the seriousness of helping those in need. Yusei represents 'choice' - the choice of your own future. Yusei chose to be more than just a "Satellite street rat", chose to bear the weight of his father's sins, and helped his friends make their choices, too. Yuma represents 'adversity' - he conquered his inexperience, his missing parents, the Numbers, the war of worlds, the loss of his friends, and so many telling him that he can't save them all. His catchphrase is all about overcoming adversity. Yuya represents 'identity' - he always tried to emulate his dad, but in trying, found his own way. Even after learning about his doppelgangers and who he used to be, he came out of all of it as his own brand of entertainer (although I wish it had ended differently). Yusaku represents 'closure' - he had his childhood ruined by those who got away with it at first, keeping him from getting what he's always been fighting for: closure for the Lost Incident. Yuga represents 'ingenuity' - he not only inspires creativity, he makes possible with ideas and creations. He made not only his dueling method possible, but the methods of so many other kids, no matter how strange or silly. Always fighting against those who would stifle creativity. Yudias represents 'community' - he started with his own community, but then expanded it by embracing the communities of others, expanding his worldview and making even the most unlikely allies and friends.
