The Shore Lark at Llanrhystud this morning. Not seen one in Wales before and as they’ve become so scarce here I was keen to get down there to see it.

Called in to see the Whiskered Tern at Durleigh Reservoir today. Perched in buoy No.7 when I arrived, but not long before it was on the wing and having plenty of success with its fishing!

Having a few days break in Somerset. Turns out that the small portion of Firecrest song heard on arrival, is a pair that appear to have set up a territory right alongside our digs. #Firecrest
Enjoyable day with @markhipkin.bsky.social Chasing a few year ticks on a stunning spring day. Started off with 7+ Hawfinch @ Forest Ganol & female RND at Lisvane Res, but no luck with the Cardiff Bay Velvet or Little Owl in the afternoon. Seemingly singing Chiffchaff all over though. #birdingWales

The Black Grouse didn’t grab all the attention this morning at Worlds End. #RedGrouse #birdingWales
Took the opportunity of a few hours at Worlds End this morning, as our base for this weekend is only 30 mins away. Arriving during darkness and just listening to the Grouse is a real treat, they didn’t disappoint when the sun came up either! #birdingWales #BlackGrouse
Good to see you too and the Lee didn’t disappoint either 👍🏻

The best opportunity to see seabirds & cetaceans off the Welsh coast. An 8-hour trip with almost guaranteed European Storm Petrel & Common Dolphin. Regular Wilson's Storm Petrel, Great & occasionally Cory's Shearwater. Both Minke & Fin Whale sighted in recent years. #ukbirding #birdingwales
An early start today, heading to Cornwall to finally catch up with the Booted Eagle. Seen in the early morning gloom from the railway bridge as it was harassed by the local crows. Also had scope views from the A30 lay-by early afternoon.
Caught up with the Pendine Desert Wheatear this morning. A tatty little thing, but hope it somehow manages to get through its little excursion to West Wales. Also tackled the hike up to Gilman Point - eventually managing to pick out M+F Surf Scoters amongst the 1000s of common.

High tide watch from Baglan dunes this AM produced none of the diver numbers seen along South Gower this weekend. c30 GCGrebes and 6 ComScoter all I could muster. Elsewhere: Spoonbill off Daltons, Scaup pair off Salthouse, BlackRed @ Crofty and this smart Spotshank @ wwtllanelli

Yeah, that was me
Finished the day on North Gower, where the Black Redstart was still faithful to the Crofty dung heap.

Negative news on Dessert Wheatear, meant stopping at a few alternative Carms birding spots. Firecrest near the water treatment works along the lane to Kidwelly quay was a welcome addition to the year list.

An enjoyable morning birding around Gower with @markhipkin.bsky.social
Early views of SEO quartering over the Vile fields, 3 Velvet Scoter with the 150+ Common flock off Worms head and also good to catch up with the Cefn Bryn Snow Bunting.
Monday evening!
A beautiful evening yesterday on Gower was brightened even more by this stunning Golden O. One very active individual, but I didn’t manage to get any sight of the second bird. #GoldenOriole #glambirds #Gower #birds
Heard my first of the year last Friday, as I got out of my car at work. Heard from the same spot every morning since.
After around 3 weeks of trying to convince myself that I should wait for a closer or more convenient Yellow-rumped Warbler, I finally cracked! And it didn’t disappoint #YellowRumpedWarbler #Myrtle #ButterButt #Ayrshire #UKtwitching
