High count of 17, possibly 18 goosander on the lake at Castle View this morning. Highest count this winter. Also kingfisher and heron. #glambirds
It was good to reconnect with a willow tit (assuming same individual) from two years ago at this site (Cynon valley S.Wales) I’m hoping there’s a pair but I fear this is the last one here. It was quickly moved along by a GT. do pairs stick close together in January? #willowtit #glambirds
Pentyrch ,Cardiff garden busier today, by late afternoon 14+ Blackbirds in the small garden and hedges feeding on apples and seed. Numbers probably higher due to breaking of pond providing water, in short supply locally? House sparrows stripping the Tamarisk branches regularly of late. #glambirds
Location of Firecrest.
Only seen briefly from below without bins (all the excuses) but pretty darn sure I had a Firecrest between Cardiff Museum and the city centre today (see pin below, feeding in canopy of tree by bus stop). #glambirds #glambirding #urbanbirding

Nice local walk this morning, lots seen/heard - meadow pipit, linnet, stonechat, wren, redstart, wheatear, willow warbler, lots of starlings (chicks), swallow, skylark, grey wagtail, raven…

My patch, where I hope every year to see/hear my big 3.
2 out of 3 will do for me today.
Redstarts and Wheatears, male and female. No cuckoo calling - might’ve left it too late.

The 4 Dotterel showed well at a chilly Cefn Cadlan early Monday #glambirds
Helped a chap down off the hill who was severely struggling walking. I can’t remember his name though it may (or may not) be Steve. He was a lead south west wales birder. Was 70, Cardiff & recently widowed. Anyone know him?
This afternoon at Cefn Cadlan:
The 4 Dotterel were great to see and a Life tick ✅, another unexpected Life tick in the form of 12 Common crossbills✅
Also, Siskin x4, Wheatear x3, Red kite, Chaffinch, Raven, Skylarks and Mipipits. #glambirds #UKBirding #UKBirds
A very blustery day at Sker today but plenty of birds around and very active. Highlights included a Yellow Wagtail, at least 8 Wheatear and a few White Wagtail. @birdsinwales #birdingWales @eastglambto.bsky.social #glambirds
A male Eurasian Kestrel warming himself up after a cold night as the sun rises over the disused barn at Sker Farm, Glamorgan, Wales. The female of the pair was also seen but wasn't as co-operative #Birds #ukbirding #raptors #Wales #Glambirds
A Ruff was a nice find by Mike Cram in the dune slacks at Kenfig yesterday. #glambirds @kenfig.bsky.social #kenfigwarden #btocymru
A walk around Kenfig today resulted in 41 species including American Wigeon, Great White Egret, Kingfisher, Water Rail, Snipe, Reed Bunting and my first Sand Martin of the year (photo from 2023). Kestrel and Red Kite also recorded as part of the BTO raptor survey. #glambirds @btocymru.bsky.social
The Bonaparte's Gull at Ogmore estuary showed well this morning, its second day there. Thanks to Tom Wright for finding and putting the news out. #glambirds
Delighted that the Bonaparte's Gull stayed another day at Ogmore estuary - many thanks to Tom Wright (who found the bird) for indicating its presence early this morning. #glambirds
Finally caught up with the black redstart at Crofty. Lovely little bird and seems quite at home on the dung heap #BlackRedstart #GlamBirds #GowerBirds #BirdingWales #UKBirding

It's officially winter! Gadwall, Teal and Pochard on west lake at #Cosmeston. #glambirds #birdingwales
High key image of a large flock of tufted ducks floating on water.
Highlights of a short visit to #CardiffBay wetland this afternoon included a chilly kingfisher, a couple of hundred frozen tufties, a smattering of shivering little grebes, a few pairs of icy goosanders, a frigid heron and lots of splashing black headed gulls. 🥶 #glambirds #birdingwales
Whilst the black throated diver frustrates by staying in the middle of Llanishen reservoir, the female ring necked duck pleases by staying close to the visitor centre on Lisvane reservoir #glambirds #birdinginwales
Nice to see the Black throated diver still on Llanishen reservoir on New Year’s Day. It was only competing with 2 hardy swimmers today😬. #glambirds
Single Hawfinch by the dragonfly pins at Cosmeston now. Quite mobile. #glambirds #birdingwales

A beautiful evening yesterday on Gower was brightened even more by this stunning Golden O. One very active individual, but I didn’t manage to get any sight of the second bird. #GoldenOriole #glambirds #Gower #birds
