"You can simply add new tracks in"

Vs

"You are required to reshape, remix, and edit... revise both before adding the final minute of audio"

Question for @uhis209evenreal.bsky.social as I go through prev materials:

I feel like I am getting conflicting information about the audio track. Is it required that the audio monologue from SME2 be re-recorded/changed, IN ADDITION to the new audio that comprises the third voice?

As I start writing , one of the 209'ers, Uday, commented that my SME felt a lot like getting ready to sit down and study/do work. I think that is an interesting direction to take this new visual track on, in addition to creating very favorable conditions for my third voice

I think about the emergent third voice now as I revise these two parts together, remembering to keep them contradictory and unreferenced to the other until that meeting comes about, in whatever form it does so.

Onwards!

The audio track is a separate issue. Revising the audio will be tough, I thought I had something pretty good on the first round. But on the bright side, I have almost 3 minutes of audio, I dont know why I thought I only had 1:30.

-as one of the primary limiting factors of my previous SME was that I created all the footage with what I had available in my room. I feel I could make something much more abstract and "uncomfortable" with other stuff to grab and draw upon.

That has led me to need to rebuild the visual track from the ground-up, at strong suggestion of ashley. My previous "lesson" the SME was teaching doesn't work well with alterations to what it is, i believe. I suspect that I will make more liberal use of outside footage-

When I did SME3, I mistook the directions: "at least 8-10 distinct shots" and "must include both still and moving images even if you decide..." to mean that images were much more importantly "weighted", which is opposite of what it seems everyone else took for direction

As I find myself with the time to begin work on The Final Voice (Thanks again Ashley for the extension,) I have gone to revisit all my past work, the submission comments on that work, and any announcements about the projects

I can't say for sure, my best guess would be that spring semesters might overall just be more stressful than fall. Graduation, Summer Internship/Job seeking, More difficult classes (think part 1 and part 2 of the same topic), etc and what was easier achieved in the fall is not-so-much in the spring

Thank you for listening in, Professor.

My number 1 ask would be to lower the duration requirements. To reiterate, I feel like it would incentivize me to really go through my past SME's and alter them/improve them, rather than trying to figure out how to extend them and maintain their quality

I suppose what I mean to say in the end, is that I would appreciate a more forgiving end-of-class workload. How exactly that takes form will require the rest of the class' input, but I agree overall that whatever it is, it needs to be less

Unlike a math paper or even a well defined essay, there are few "borders" on this assignment, and while that opens up a lot of creative room, it means I can spend so much time thinking about my options that I spend hours and hours with nothing to show

For this reason I think it would be easier, and more creatively fulfilling, to relax the requirements and do some kind of combination of the two assignments on an extended timeline. Its just so much to think about and do that i just feel like giving up

I am instead trying to figure out where Im going to get so much audio from in such a small timeframe. In addition to having to drastically rework SME3, which as you noted, most of the class has to as well

Its creatively exhausting especially when we're working with something entirely foreign and hard to think about by its nature. I feel like, rather than iterating on past assignments and figuring out how to improve them, and put intentionality behind them

I think, the reason SME3-4 feel particularly rough is because of the continously extending timelines:
Sme 2 was 2-3 minutes of audio
Sme 3 is 2.5-3.5 minutes of visuals
Sme 4 is 3-4 minutes of both
The Third voice is 4-5 minutes of both

Right now, I agree with the sentiment that the workload is feeling really overwhelming. Last week was bad, this week is worse. Many classes are ramping into their final stages and it feels like I am constantly behind or not making wise use of my time

I think my current draft is unexpectedly saying to me to "focus". Its over the place, and could be seen as a rambly routine around the room to distract from whatever task I have at hand, and if I listen to this I can guide the third voice there.

The third voice would be an intermediary that bridges the two, but the bridge is held up by one rope or cracked in places. There is a connection to be made, a middle to be found, but it is not perfect and is held up by the two concrete "Voices" on either side

The legacy of surrealism was european-centric and familiar only in that way. By twisting what is familiar to you, you can create an aesthetic surrealism that is specific to you and that would help in SME no 4

Take advantage of the resources you do have. One of the things they mentioned was getting friends to work for free or to try and do labor trades to squeeze the cash as far as you can go

When talking about soap opera characters watching TV, the shot is usually frames with the camera behind the TV, so the observation is made that "you get confused about who's the performer, them or you?" since the characters are looking at you, and I think thats interesting

When talking about how to work on SME4 I do appreciate the insight that the in between state will be a bit difficult to find, but getting something relational going on without being a total match or mismatch is a fairly broad/easy to accomplish task

I did acknowledge that the fish tank was representing some kind of accumulation since we've reviewed a few pieces of media with the same idea. I did not connect the dots of it trying to represent the feelings of the soap opera members until now

I agree that usually of the creative constraints, budget is the one that you will always run into regardless of how high it is because you COULD always go bigger so you learn to work with what you have

"The real enemy is never outside the community but within" is I think a poignant line. Many crimes, usually sexual assault, occur from people you know and in close family circles, then friends, then the surrounding community. Random crimes of such a nature are comparatively rare
