A soggy European Robin, perched on a fence

My Robin friend Henry. His chicks have hatched, and he is working very hard to feed them, even in the rain. He seemed very relieved when I showed up with some food this evening.

A woodland floor, covered in Three-cornered Leek

Three-cornered Leek. It might look pretty, but is an invasive species. It's now dominating a large area of a local wood and has completely wiped out the native woodland flora. There are now thousands of plants, they cover the area so densely that almost no other plants get a chance.

“It’s a major logistical operation" – toad patrols in Britain are saving thousands of amphibians a year | Discover Wildlife Meet the volunteers who are helping toads cross roads safely in the UK - they're saving thousands of amphibians every year

A friend of mine has helped to organise one on the outskirts of Bath for many years - here's an article he wrote www.discoverwildlife.com/animal-facts...
Several more have recently started up locally and have no shortage of volunteers. At it turns out, a lot of people care about toads!

I'm no vet, but if it's still alive, not bleeding and can still walk, there's a good chance it'll be ok.

Common Toad sitting in a road in Priston, near Bath. Seemed stunned & may have been hit by a car, but after checking it over I could find no serious injury. I moved it to safety and it wandered off. Sadly, not all toads are this lucky, Several toad patrols operate around Bath in breeding season

My Robin friend Little Mate spotted a hunting Sparrowhawk, and immediately sounded the alarm. Robins have a specific alarm call for aerial predators that alerts all birds within the vicinity to their presence.

Found a very dozy pair of Wood Mice near Bath today. Picked one up briefly to check for the rarer Yellow-necked Mouse, which has a complete yellow band across the neck. This one only had a small patch, so definitely Wood Mouse. I returned it to its bed & friend after examining it

Peacock (Aglais io) - one of the earliest butterflies to appear in the spring, they hibernate as adults. I often find them in sheds in the winter, if you stay around them for too long, they make a rasping noise, possibly to deter predators
