A Great Gray Owl perched on the very tip of a small spruce tree, with distant blurry birch trees in the background. The owl is large and mostly gray and white with brown streaking. It has small but intense yellow eyes. Its body is angled to the right, but its face is looking directly at the camera.

In addition to Boreal Owls, a second owl irruption is overtaking northern Minnesota and was the primary reason to travel there --- I got my lifer Great Gray Owl!

The Great Gray Owl is North America's largest owl, with a 5 foot wingspan.
