Did your grandmother sew you a soft and fluffy quilt when you were younger? That's great; however, porcupines have up to 30,000 barbed quills. Quilts and quills are quite different. Their quills are neither soft nor fluffy (even if they seem friend-shaped).

What does GIS stand for? What are geographic information systems? GIS stands for Geographic Information System Geographic information systems are the scientific framework for capturing, analyzing, and visualizing location data. What are some examples of GIS? A common example of GIS is Google Maps. However, this tool is made to be used by the general public to view GIS data, not create it. Who uses GIS? We do! All kinds of professionals that work with the land use GIS. From city planners to farmers, GIS is used to map out our world! How does NRICD use GIS? Examples of how GIS is used in conservation include to create farm plans, predict flood zones, and track soil changes. We use GIS everyday at NRICD!
It's national GIS day! Remember our eco-cartographers next time you use your navigation system to drive home, or check trail maps to avoid walking into ponds. GIS technology, we would literally be lost without you!
