We did it! 🎉 Staff from Five Sisters Zoo & I ran a 5k @parkrun UK on Sat to raise funds for the zoo's new cheetah run. The #cheetahs seemed rather confused by my attire 😂🐆

And suddenly it is done!
Last week I successfully defended my #PhD #research. It's been a long journey; plain sailing at times & a rollercoaster at others. Words can't express how happy, excited, grateful, relieved & proud I feel. Can't wait for the next #conservation project. Let's do this! 💪🐆🦦🐾🐾

Donations - Five Sisters Zoo During December and January, to celebrate International Cheetah Day, the Five Sisters Zoo (FSZ) team, in collaboration with researcher Larissa Slaney from the Fit Cheetahs project at Heriot-Watt University , is aiming to raise £4000 to purchase new enrichment items for our four cheetah residents. This new enrichment will help our cheetahs to continue expressing their natural behaviours. Ijubane, Velox, Artemis and Ashanti have lived at FSZ since 2022 and have become incredible ambassadors for their species. In this time, they have all contributed to important research that helps conservation efforts in wild cheetah habitats. As part of the fundraising efforts, members of the FSZ team, along with Larissa, will be carrying out various fundraising activities in the coming weeks, including a 5k park run. All support is very welcome!

Whose idea was it to do a 5k in the Scottish winter??! 🥶🤔😇😅 No seriously, I am looking forward to my first @parkrun UK with the staff from Five Sisters Zoo on 31 Jan for such a worthwhile cause. I am grateful for all your support! You can donate at fivesisterszoo.co.uk/product-cate... 😊🙏🏃‍♀️🐆

3/3 This would give these #cheetahs the opportunity to express natural hunting behaviour and provide physical and mental enrichment. And no doubt, it would also be enrichment for visitors to enjoy 😉🐆🐾

2/3 This is a #ThankYou to #cheetahs Ijubane, Velox, Artemis & Ashanti who provided a lot of footprints for my #research to help develop non-invasive Footprint Identification Technology
I hope that we raise enough funds for a 'cheetah run' lure system #Caturday

#Cheetahs are the fastest land mammals. To give the cheetahs at Five Sisters Zoo the chance to show off this natural behaviour, I am pledging my first 5k in the Scottish winter for this enrichment fundraiser. 🥶
Grateful for any support!🙏

The Central African #cheetah is classed as #Endangered, North-west African & Asiatic cheetah subspecies are #CriticallyEndangered! Check out difference between historic & current distribution of the species. The Asiatic cheetah now only found in Iran with ca. 27 adults left

'Where the Wild Things should be' is the theme of #NationalMammalWeek.
With fewer than 7,000 #cheetahs left, the species is classed as Vulnerable by the IUCN. Over the last century, the cheetah has lost >90% of their population as well as their distribution range.

Unfortunately, there were lots of great workshops I did not manage to attend. And I realised, yet again, that I still have sooooooo much to learn. #Nature and #wildlife are complex and fascinating, and learning about them is a lifelong journey. Looking forward to the next learning opportunity. 🐾🌿

This year's International Tracking Symposium #ITS25 was simply fab! Great workshops & speakers, a perfect venue in Holland and an amazing group of participants. I managed to attend talks & workshops on human #tracking, preservation of feathers & bones, scat morphology, antler ID & deer behaviour.

I know that tracking has made me a better #biologist, and with a foot in each community, I would like to help bridge that gap and encourage a closer connection & collaborations between the conservation research & tracking communities. Watch this space! 😉🐾🐾

The #tracking community has so much expert knowledge to offer and I am excited for future conservation projects together. #Wildlife monitoring and #Rewilding projects can hugely benefit from such collaborations.

With a brilliant audience of trackers & beautiful weather we held our talk outside at this year's International Tracking Symposium. We discussed benefits of tracking knowledge for #wildlife #conservation & how to get trackers more involved in academic #research & #CitizenScience projects. 🐾🐾

We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country.

This Friday, where will you be?

Happy #WorldWildlifeDay!
Let's celebrate the #biodiversity of our planet. So many beautiful & amazing species of which the #cheetah is a stunning example. Many, including the cheetah, are on the brink of extinction due to loss of habitat, illegal trade & conflict.

Musk’s status as a “special government employee” limits him to 130 days in the executive branch. However, despite working daily—documented by his own X posts—they claim he only works one day a week, effectively stretching his limit to 130 weeks. This needs to be brought to Congress—please share.
