Hackney Art Week is back, and in 2026 it’s going to be even bigger than last year’s event. …
Hackney side of Old Street. David BOWIE as Ziggy STARDUST in black & white mosiac over the entrance to a cocktail bar. Similar style to the tiled space invaders.
Brilliant thanks please email hackneyhistoryfestival@gmail.com
Built in 1901 by 'Matchless' Frank Matcham, a power house for the arts, the Hackney Empire is superb. Famously brilliant pantomime every year, saw English Touring Opera's fab G&S 'The Gondoliers'on Saturday gone.
What a wonderful afternoon! 🎭 Our members were treated to a fascinating and informative tour of the magnificent Hackney Empire, a resplendent Frank Matcham palace and one of London's finest surviving variety theatres. Huge thanks to the team at @hackneyempire.bsky.social for welcoming us so warmly
A massive number of nearly identical wood panels on a wall, rather sombre, with a small light casting a glow at either side.
Linenfold oak panelling at Sutton House in Hackney.
Briefly removed in the 1980s by thieves claiming to be from the council, inspecting for asbestos.

View of bridge passing over canal. Flats under construction in background, on other side of canal.
Took this about a forrnight ago. A new bridge improving connections between the north of Hackney Wick with Fish Island appears to be nearing completion. Was supposed to open last summer! (see www.queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/business/fut...)
A glimpse of the distant tower of St Michael’s Church, Kingsteignton from Hackney Marshes on a sunny day earlier this week.
The church was built in the 15th century and restored in 1865.

Hackney Council Swaps Tractors for Horses
Hackney Council is trying something in Springfield Park that looks, at first glance, faintly surreal: heavy horses working the land instead of tractors. But this is not a heritage stunt or a bit of East London cosplay. It is a genuine trial in low-impact…

Photo of a slide presented by Hackney with the stats and the town hall behind.
Some amazing stats from Hackney Council. 87% of trips by sustainable modes, 65% of households car free but 44% of car trips through traffic just passing through. 4.3% traffic reduction post COVID, 49% air quality improvement since 2017.
Shows car dependency isn't a given.
