This is a picture of damp soil in the forest. There’s some little plants, adorned with dewdrops. Also there’s a bird. It’s mostly brown, with a grey head and fabulous white eyebrows.

More ducks, mostly Australasian Shovellers, this time swimming. There's one on the far right that's got some incredible eyeliner going on, he's probably going to join some kind of emo band.

I've apparently reached the stage of my life where being invited to go to a sewerage treatment plant to look at waterfowl is genuinely my idea of a great social outing. RIP to my youth I guess. Anyway, here's a bunch of (mostly) ducks. #birding #ausbirds

Our local quoll showed up again and this time I actually managed to get a decent picture. This might be the best thing that has ever happened to me. #auswildlife #wildoz #marsupial #mammal

Two baby birds that are mostly feathered, except for their bald heads. They are in a fabric nest. One is shouting for food, which is activity they engage in approximately every 5 minutes.

Please enjoy my ugly gremlin babies. They are Noisy Friarbirds so this look isn’t really going to get much better. #ausbirds #wildliferehab

Nankeen Night-Heron showed up on our dam last week, which was very nice of since I got to record it in my #AussieBirdCount surveys. Doesn’t like having its photo taken, but I finally got it! #ausbirds

A cardboard box with a hole cut in the bottom. A child’s nose and glasses are visible peeking through the hole. On top of the box is a brown cuckoo-dove, and another stands in front of the box. Occasionally the doves slap each other (not pictured) which is hilarious, according to the box-dwellers.

My children have set up a box from which to spy on the brown cuckoo-doves. The cuckoo-doves are suspicious of the giggling box but not enough to pass up the offer of seeds.

A Latham’s Snipe, that is, by some miracle, not flying away so the only picture I get is a vague brown blur. It is wading through a grassy bit of wetland. Not pictured: the other four Latham’s Snipes I saw today, who all bailed out before I’d even lifted the camera.

Succeeded at my Snipe hunt today ✅

Some releases are exciting and beautiful celebrations of freedom, as the animal flies/hops/runs away from us. Echidna releases are…. not like that. Safe travels little one! #wildliferehab #auswildlife

A great day of birding for #OctoberBigDay - we finished with 86 species, 3 lifers for me, and a sunburn because I forgot to pack sunscreen.

They are a cat-sized carnivorous marsupial. Vulnerable species - seeing one in the wild is an incredible treat.

Oh these are wonderful! We don’t really have fences so I usually set my camera traps on animals trails. Mostly I get lots of brush turkeys, lyrebirds, wombats and wallabies. Quoll has been the bucket list animal!

We've lived on this property for 13 years and I've been trying to catch a quoll on my trail cams basically since we moved in. Never seen one. But today one turned up and tried to break into the (fortunately secure) aviary. This is the most exciting thing ever. #wildoz #ausmammals

It started pouring with rain on our walk yesterday. Anyway fun fact turns out pelicans drink rainwater by just sitting there with their bills open. They even moved to align themselves with the direction the rain was coming in. So that's cool. #ausbirds #wildoz #pelican

Yeah when I spotted this one I saw a dozen males but only two females, I do wonder how many more females were present but hiding too well for me to see.

He does! Though personally I think a better name could have been chosen, since you don't see the red rump from most angles. (And the poor female gets saddled with a name for a feature she doesn't have.)
