That’s not how a healthy democracy functions. The reality is, this behavior is coming from a relatively small (but very loud) group. But ignoring it—or worse, enabling it—only gives it room to grow.

Because when you blur the line between political leadership and influencer-style loyalty, you risk creating the same playbook we’ve criticized for years—one popularized by Donald Trump: discredit critics, rally against perceived enemies, and treat disagreement as betrayal.

Not fringe disagreement—full-on hostility. What’s worse is how it was handled. When a campaign’s response is essentially, “send us names and we’ll talk to them,” it misses the point. Leadership should set the tone and clearly condemn that behavior upfront.

We talk a lot about the “radical right”—and for good reason—but this past primary showed that extreme behavior isn’t exclusive to one side. I saw people engaging in doxxing, threatening violence, and escalating rhetoric to a level that felt disturbingly familiar.

But influencing has always been a one-way relationship. The audience listens; they don’t actually know the person. And that dynamic gets risky in politics, where perception, loyalty, and emotion can outweigh facts and accountability.

Mixing political candidates with influencer culture is a dangerous game. Influencers are treated like celebrities, and for some followers, that turns into something deeper—an unhealthy attachment where they feel like the creator is their best friend, family, or ride-or-die.

Congrats to Gov. Pritzker!

They shouldn’t be strangers to the districts—dropped in like it’s a game of Sims.

Candidates should know teachers in the schools, have memories of Saturdays at the bowling alley, or grabbing ice cream after Friday night lights.

If we want real change and a new generation of Democrats representing their communities, it should come organically from within those communities.

With the IL-09 primary in its final hours, I’ve chose not to feed false narratives these past few days and instead enjoyed the engagement from Kat’s fans on my platform. Engagement is where my income comes from—so those comments coincidentally generated about $1,500.

Each threat is documented and reported to the appropriate city, state, and federal law enforcement including the FBI’s IC3. I pursue every legal option available to ensure our safety.

Political disagreements should never escalate into intimidation, harassment, or threats. Engage responsibly.
