Experiments for measuring dung and soil removal and seed dispersal. These are some of the ecosystem services provided by dung beetles. We weighted how much dung is left and how much soil was moved. We also counted dispersed seeds. These results will be compared with data collected 13 years ago.

‘I rarely get outside’: scientists ditch fieldwork in the age of AI In the race to embrace new technologies, some ecologists fear their field is losing touch with nature.

New technologies are revolutionising ecology, with more data than ever available at our fingertips. But what are the costs and perils of ecologists doing less field work?

📢 1st paper of project DUNGPOOL is out. We present the list and geographical records of the dung beetles collected in the Azores. Dversity is low, and includes alien species. Will these poor communities be able to sustain the basic ecosystem services? More to come!
