We have used baited pitfall ttaps to collect dung beetles a d get to kniw their diversity
Two 💩🪲 talks this week in Goiania (Brasil)! Don't miss it if you are in the area!
Experiments for measuring dung and soil removal and seed dispersal. These are some of the ecosystem services provided by dung beetles. We weighted how much dung is left and how much soil was moved. We also counted dispersed seeds. These results will be compared with data collected 13 years ago.
I am proud to present our new project CLIMBFUN. We will be studying dung beetles on miuntain systems, collectingin sites visited 15-20 years ago.
Collaborative work wirh researchers from Spain, Brazil, UK and France!
Please follow @climbfun.bsky.social for cool updates
Coming back home from another great @biogeography.bsky.social TIBS meeting #TIBS2026. So many great talks, conversations with friends and colleagues, and renovated energy for future research!
It is always a pleasure to attend these meetings.
The news is finally out — #TIBS2028 will be held in #China 🇨🇳
The conference will take place in #Beijing, bringing the global #biogeography community together again after two years.
High expectations for an exciting meeting and stimulating discussions.
Now at #TIBS2026: the functional island biogeography symposium, with a nice intro by @biogeokreft.bsky.social. For some background on functional traits, check out our paper in @ecography.bsky.social: doi.org/10.1111/ecog...
New technologies are revolutionising ecology, with more data than ever available at our fingertips. But what are the costs and perils of ecologists doing less field work?
Interviews with several BES members in this fascinating @nature.com article
Looking forward to be at the #BES2025
Excited to learn new stuff, and to meet friends and colleagues

I will be presenting a poster from DUNGPOOL project, about the effects of temperature and species interactions on dung 💩 removal

Beer + Science, a perfect combination! We will be giving a talk about dunng beetles and global change!
Ven a Cercedilla a tomar una cerveza mientras aprendes sobre cambio global y escarabajos coprófagos
The project @dungpool_proj studies dung beetles in island and mainland cattle-grazed pasturelands. Here is some data from it, from three Azorean islands: doi.org/10.3897/BDJ....

📢 1st paper of project DUNGPOOL is out. We present the list and geographical records of the dung beetles collected in the Azores. Dversity is low, and includes alien species. Will these poor communities be able to sustain the basic ecosystem services? More to come!

European Researchers Nigth at @uam.es
12 amazing activities, representing different departments and institutes of our university.
It is always a please to showcase our research to the general public!
Kudos the Unidad de Cultura Cientifica team. It is great working with you!
Our CLIMBFUN project has been granted @ageinves.bsky.social! 3 years to study how 💩🪲dung beetle diversity and ecosystem functions change through time📆🗓️, along elevational gradients ⛰️, and how climate change 🌡️ influences these insects. Looking forward to work with my colleagues from 🇪🇸 🇧🇷 🇬🇧
📅 El 26/09 la #UAM celebra La Noche Europea de lxs Investigadorxs en la Plaza Mayor del campus de Cantoblanco. Talleres, juegos y ciencia en vivo para todos los públicos. Entrada libre, sin inscripción.

BioNCCE group @sibecol-aeet-25.bsky.social conference, presenting DUNGPOOL's first results!
Eva Cuesta will be presenting today @sibecol-aeet-25.bsky.social DUNGPOOL's first results of the field experiments conducted in Madrid region with open top chambers. Session GSE, 13.15, room: Auditorio
Don't miss out Almudena Dueñas talk today @sibecol-aeet-25.bsky.social, that will be showing DUNGPOOL's first results of the temperature controlled experiments we performed (also part of her PhD researxh). Session GSE, 12.00, room: Auditorio
DUNGPOOL fieldwork is over! We had three amazing fieldwork seasons, with a lof of hard work, adventures and fun. Now is time to finish processing the samples, analyse data, and hopefully find interesting results. Stay tunned!
Thanks to everyone involved. It takes a village to do good science!
Sonia Llorente defended her thesis brilliantly. Congratulations Dr Sonia!
Thanks to @mgs-cielo-azul.bsky.social @fmazcarate.bsky.social & Fernanda Alves Martins fir being part of the committee, and for the great discussion you raised!
#proudsupervisor
Sonia Llorente defiende su tesis de doctorado el proximo viernes, dia 23 de mayo, a las 14.00 en la UAM. ¡Venid!
New and final DUNGPOOL project field experiment, in which we will measure dung removal under different temperatures and species combinations 💩🪲
...but with each ending comes a new beginning. We would like to announce that Ana Margarida C. Santos (Guida) will replace Jean-Michel as Senior Editor. You can read a blog post she has written to introduce herself below:
