I’m a member of a veteran farmers group. Political affiliation all over the map. We had a meeting on Sunday. Everyone agrees that they’re f*cked this year because fuel and fertilizer prices and shortages are destroying them.

The steeple of the the Old North Church in 2025. In the very topmost windows there are 2 lanterns lit. That's in the wooden tiered section.

On the brick tower below, a light from a projector puts this yellow text on the front of the building:

"Let the
WARNING
ride forth
ONCE MORE:
TYRANNY
is at
OUR DOOR"

For additional context, here was the same steeple in 2025--the night we heard @hcrichardson.bsky.social tell us a tale of yesteryear.

Exclusive: Watch the church from Paul Revere’s ride lose its steeple in 1954 storm Never-before-seen footage of the historic Old North Church’s steeple toppling in Hurricane Carol’s high winds in 1954 has come to light ahead of Nation’s 250th anniversary this summer.

Just got a newsletter from the Old North Church and it links to an article about the steeple falling in #HurricaneCarol 1954.

They found movie footage of it falling.

But I also thought about how visible it was from the harbor...

HEAD QUARTERS MORRIS TOWN 12TH MARCH 1777

Sir

You are hereby required immediately to send me an exact return of your regiment, and to send all your recruits, who have had the small pox to join the Army. Those, who have not, are to be sent to Philadelphia, and put under the direction of the commanding officer there, who will have them inoculated. You are to leave a sufficient number of proper officers to carry on the recruiting service, who are to bring up their men as soon as they are ready. No pleas, of delay, on account of the dispersion of the officers can be admitted, as every commanding officer ought to know where his inferior officers are, and they what recruits they have, and where they are to be found.

You are to remain at Philadelphia, to procure arms clothing &c., and send on, your Major to Camp, to receive your detachments. Your Lieut. Colonel is also to come on, as soon as circumstances will permit.

I am Sir

Your most humble servant

Go: Washington

George Washington wrote this letter to Lt. Colonel David Grier on March 12, 1777. In it, Washington instructs Grier to send new soldiers to Philadelphia so they could be inoculated for smallpox. Washington wanted to make sure that his troops were not affected by disease, and he believed that inoculation would help with that. So, just before this letter was written, Washington created a mandated system of inoculating his soldiers.

Reminder: the first vaccine mandate in the history of what can be called the American armed forces was handed down by George Washington during the Revolutionary War.

Because Washington wasn't a goddamned idiot.

Neil Katyal on @lawrenceodonnell.bsky.social's show was just saying that his group set up some kind of portal to help small biz folks to navigate that.

I didn't catch the name but someone will know. And you can catch a view later on a stream.

@bencollins.bsky.social will enjoy this.

I often think about what it will look like to rebuild NIH. It's going to be hard, expensive work.

And that's if we stop the damage and start rebuilding soon.

It's only going to get harder the longer this lasts.

Big abortion win in PA today - the ban on Medicaid funding is unconstitutional!

AND there's a fundamental right to abortion!

We won!

(Though this Commonwealth Court opinion can be appealed - we'll see what our AG does.)

I posted the other day when the site was flaky and I think people didn't catch it.

But you have to see how #GeorgeWashington's sash actually could have carried wounded soldiers off the field of battle! They did it with a #sprang replica sash.

Fight Against Federal Overreach The Fight Against Federal Overreach (FAFO) is a national coalition of District Attorneys collaborating to ensure federal officials are held accountable when they exceed their lawful authority.

Ha! Just heard update on @jenpsaki.bsky.social about the Minneapolis DA and charges against #ICE thugs being successfully brought. She mentioned the DA organization name that was new to me: Fight Against Federal Overreach (#FAFO).

Great name. Well done, DAs. Go get 'em.

My worktable with the gridded mat below, and my frame with a sprang project in the center. It is gray and yellow and the appearance of the yellow is either coherent or flecked, depending on how I twisted the threads. It's matching at some points and a mess in other sections.

I'm at the tying off point and my crochet hook awaits for me to pull a thread and finish that in the dead center.
To the left is the previous project in solid yellow. It's twisty when you take it off the frame because it's not blocked yet.

To the right is the Sprang Unsprung book by Carol James, my instructor.

The frame is two wooden dowels on each edge, and a top and bottom holder that runs horizontally to hold your threads.

Currently I am making a giant mess of #Sprang in my beginner class. Luckily, this week's challenge was to make a lot of color changes in your rows to see what happens.

But it can be done in AMAZING ways. Carol James, our instructor, is world-class. 1/2

The U.S. House passes Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s legislation to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti.

IT'S OFFICIAL: The House has passed our extension of TPS for Haiti.

This win wouldn't be possible without the strength & organizing of our movement to defend our Haitian neighbors.

To those in the #MA7 & beyond, this is for you.

The Senate must pick this up without delay.
