Rearrangement of amphipathic helices enables lipid uptake at ATG2A N-terminus.
📢 New #preprint from CRN Team Hurley!
The team uncovers the mechanism of ATG2A-mediated lipid transport 🧪
Structural modeling and simulations show that N-terminal helices gate lipid transfer, and a designed mutant transfers lipids three times faster in vitro.

At #BPS2026? 🧬 Come talk structural biology & mTORC1 signaling!
I'll be at Poster B220 this Tuesday, 2:45–3:45 PM.
I’m also building the Cui Lab at CU Anschutz and looking for postdocs/students interested in Cryo-EM and ML. Let's chat! 🧪🏔️

Between this and the recent work from the Wilfling Lab
@wilflinglab.bsky.social it seems clear that cryo-ET is the new method of choice to study condensation mechanisms.
How does molecular valency shape condensate assembly and function? We used the CO2-fixing organelle in algae—the pyrenoid—to find out… 🧵

Glad to have such great company!
I even would go a bit further. This is on a whole different level than anything on the topic up to now.
Seen in the neighborhood: On integrating theory and practice.
⚡️Mitochondria make ATP, the energy that powers life. But in neurons, with axons up to a meter long, how do these tiny power plants stay functional in the right places? We went looking. 1/n www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
So Darwin also discovered the Dunning-Kruger effect, not only natural selection.

Finally in @nature.com 🎉
We uncovered step-wise mTORC1 activation on membrane: RAG–Ragulator recruits, RHEB pushes closer, and direct membrane contacts by RAPTOR + mTOR trigger full kinase activity.👉 The membrane is not just a platform — it’s part of the mechanism.

Thanks, Brett. @chen3dem.bsky.social did an incredible job, and everything came together.
RFK Jr. rolled out that old chestnut again about how healthy Americans were in the 60’s, so here’s a fact check.
In 1965:
-42% of American adults smoked; it’s 11% now.
-The infant morality rate was 24.7/1000; it’s 5.6/1000 now.
-Overall life expectancy was 70 years; it's about 77 years now.
Congratulations (even if it is hardly a surprise!)

🧪 And House appropriators say: no cuts to NIH budget!
House subcommittee version just came out (link below). Holds NIH flat at $48 billion.
To be clear: this is far from over. But a good sign that science still matters across both sides of aisle.
YOUR VOICE MATTERS!!
BREAKING: Big moment as CDC staff stage a mass walkout.
They have lined the street outside its HQ to greet and salute the four top officials who have resigned in protest at RFK Jr’s attack on the agency’s science base.
