Well, if tonight's fencing training is anything to go by, I will be finishing last in both competitions at the weekend.

Unfortunately I bought them when I fenced 20 years ago, a collection of Leon Paul and Allstar frankenswords.
I guess the only thing is to buy four new grips at the next competition after trying them.

Possibly the most annoying thing (that isn't point screws) in fencing is pistol grips not having sizes stamped on them.
I want to have all my foils have the exact same grips.
Despite working the elective section list multiple times in December, it has finally happened.
I can now be the most ridiculously festive Anaesthetist for the rest of my career.

First #fencing comp for a very long time. Woke up slow, got better, and then ended 6th.
Silly mistakes but a happy enough day.
#Fencing tonight: the one where quarte, counter quarte, septime, prime disengage riposte was actually the correct answer. After 20 years, it was finally the answer.
Sure, if the footwork was better, it wouldn't have been needed....
Beautiful day in the park before the weather blew in.
The DOMS is real.
The 21km of running this week is probably a record for me, plus the fencing session too!
Finally had an afternoon to do some Foil Maintenance. Its only been ~20 years since I last took some of these blades apart.
I should have 3 working foils for at least another week now, only had to retire 2 (very) old blades!

First time I've run 10km - definitely feeling easier to get up and go, and the 10km easy pace is the same pace as my first full has 5km was earlier this year.
Who knew that training makes it better?

I'm keeping up with the running in this current fitness kick.
Currently 1st down since I started; completed C25km in a sensible amount of time, and done a couple of Parkruns.
Decided to try and get a bit quicker than a plod with Runna.

Two more hares found during today's 6k run
Nice Jon. Tough day in the sun this morning!
Finale of the C25Km today with a warm #Parkrun Felixstowe. 3mins faster than my training 5km. #runsky
Easy run today before the end of C25Km this weekend.
The combination of fueling better and increasing exercise has led to a stone of weight loss over 3 months and feeling much healthier too.
The goal of getting back to pre accident fitness doesn't seem impossible.
C25KM run 29 done (end of week 10).
Followed every session from my Garmin and I have already run a few 5k sessions. The consistency has been the good thing for me, forcing myself up and out 3 times a week and feeling much better for it.

@benaaronovitch.bsky.social Is there a "Rivers of London" Location list anywhere? Thinking about planning a trip down to the Big Smoke with a few friends who enjoy your books!
If the person who ordered the lightning storm would kindly own up and help read some emergency bedtime stories, that'd be swell.
@dominicburgess.bsky.social what's happening these days? Over at my mum's house and NULS' Mrs C would love to know what new adventures you are getting up to!
Going through my attic and found my copy of the cheese and onion (Ohcm) signed by Alan Fletcher aka Dr Karl Kennedy from that neighbours programme.
Apparently it's what med students did back in 2008.
A C25Km run after a tough weekend at work.
Glad of the time to decompress outside of ye olde concrete box and get some air in the lungs and some time by the water.
Generic anaesthetist attire of smart jeans, collar shirt and pullover 1/4 zip fleece should suffice.
Or go full triathlete and stick a road bike in the office.
SNAP3 has just published looking at the impact of frailty and multimorbidity on outcomes after surgery in a whole UK sample of older patients. #AnSky #GeriSky #SurgSky @rcoanews.bsky.social @rcoa-cri.bsky.social @gerisoc.bsky.social @bjajournals.bsky.social @claireswarbrick.bsky.social
The C25Km continues with week 7 now over and the successful long run of 6.1km.
I'm not sure I expected to get to this before the end of three months. Losing half a stone has helped too!
Might end up doing parkrun soon!
Week 6 of Couch to 5km. Run 16 of the plan. 2 miles. Relatively easy now. Lesson learned: don't do the run after a long day at work without fueling properly. Lesson 2: it's ok to have a lunch break
I cannot fathom the dread that CIG community managers felt pulling into work today. It has to be exhausting when CIG seemingly feels compelled to treat good will as a currency to spend and not something to foster
I'm feeling somewhat glum and pensive about the whole accident, despite how lucky I was and how well my physio went before and after my shoulder op, all these years later.
After my accident 11 years ago I remain super grateful for all the PHEM docs and paramedics (and pilots, odps, nurses etc)
The strange thing is how seeing the outside of the helo seems so alien to me, whilst I could draw the inside of the thing from memory still!
Seeing the air ambulance up close brings a lot of memories back for me.
I hope the person they flew for is doing okay!
Run 8 of C25km; Post work and about two weeks of broken sleep.
Found following a Easy run to 15mins impossible this evening; couldn't get going without feeling like I was maxing HR even on flat.
Turned the session into 2min30 Run / 2min30 Walk repeats.
Not every run goes to plan.
