Resorting to the stationary #bicycle (technically a unicycle) to keep up my conditioning while my calf strain resolves itself, hopefully in time to #run a #marathon in 3 weeks. Feeling a bit squirrelly in the meantime. Talked to a guy in the gym who recently had a stroke. Amazing recovery story!

4 wks out from the #Toronto #Marathon & my final #LongRun went sideways. Ah well. On the upside, I listened to a CBC Ideas podcast interview of John Dadosky on the #philosophy of Bernard Lonergan. I took a course on Lonergan’s Insight @ Regis College with John 20 yrs ago. #Running #MarathonTraining

Definitely a challenge. On my first long run this year, the tube on my hydration vest froze solid in 10 minutes. And I’ve had some good falls too. Sadly no video.

The 4.5 kilometre marker on Toronto’s Lower Don Trail. Depending on your point of view, the marker has either been defaced or improved by a white graffiti tag. Behind it is a brick cube-shaped pumping station which has been similarly defaced/improved. The bronze statue of Terry Fox mid-stride on his Marathon of Hope. To the left behind the statue and blowing in the wind is a Canadian flag. The memorial is set in a stand of trees which are bare because spring has not yet arrived.

Today I logged my 1st 1000 kms of 2026. For perspective, that’s 75% of the distance from my home to the Terry Fox Memorial in Thunder Bay. Or 0.25% of the avg distance from the Earth to the moon. #Running #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky #MarathonTraining #TerryFox #Artemis

I’ve given up #running in winter gear, so went out in shorts & froze my keister. And my fingers. And my ears. And I got well caked in mud. I guess that makes me an April Fool. #Run #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky #MarathonTraining

This image is sepia toned, not intentionally, but because early spring scenes in Toronto tend to be dull and emphatically not green. In the foreground is the paved path of Taylor Creek trail curving off to the right and underneath the Woodbine Bridge which curves overhead in a broad arch. In the middle ground, leaning into the image from the right, is a bare willow tree. Because the image comes from the poster’s Strava account, it is overlaid with running stats and the words, “Feeling Gratitude that I can do this.”

Been a while since I last posted a #run to BS. No reason. Except maybe after big runs I lose my fine motor skills & have trouble manipulating the tiny keys on my digital devices. Anyhoo, yesterday took me up to Taylor Creek in #Toronto #LongRun #Running #MarathonTraining #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky

Brisk #TempoRun thru the city with a pause at Toronto’s Chester Hill Lookout for a view across the Don Valley. Although there’s still snow on the ground, at least most of the pathways & sidewalks are clear now. Can wear normal trainers for a change. #Toronto #Run #Running #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky

Went for a #LongRun in the snow this morning. Apparently I was 1 of about 3 people in the country who wasn’t watching the hockey game. Freezing my ass off outside helped numb me to the disappointment. #Run #Running #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky

Ran like a Rocket Man on the #treadmill today. When I was 11, I had a crush on a girl who had a crush on Elton John & she sent in to a mail order house selling EJ’s chest hairs. I thought there was something fishy about the deal and told her so. She wouldn’t talk to me after that. Alas! #Run #RunSky

The one great advantage of #treadmill running is that it gives me a chance to show off my fancy compression socks. I may be on the brink of collapse but at least my legs look cheerful. #running #run #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky

The problem with snow in the city is that it doesn’t take long to turn dirty and disgusting. It reveals how much grit our lungs suck in. I love #Toronto but there are times I need to get the hell out. #Running #Run #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky #CityLife #CityLiving #WinterRunning

I have Hobbit feet, not just hairy, but flappy wide too. If you look closely at LOTR, you’ll notice that many of the Hobbits wear Altras, especially when they go #TrailRunning through Mordor. The wide toe box makes all the difference. #Run #Running #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky

It’s not something I plan to make a habit of, but given the weather, a treadmill is better than sitting on my duff and staring out the window. We ended up with 60 cm of snow.

With a forecast 50 cm of #snow coming today, I thought I’d try a #LongRun on the #treadmill for a change. Gave me a chance to practice fuelling on the fly, which is awkward outside in the winter. #WinterWeather #Running #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky

I had an uncle who lost 3 fingers to a snow blower. If there was a Darwin Award for fingers, he would’ve won hands down. So, from my uncle to you, a #winter weather tip: don’t stick your hand in a snow blower while it’s still running. #Running #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky #WinterRunning

I found Gogol’s nose! It was hanging out above a shop entrance on Queen St E and, like me, I think it was running. After all, it was -12C with a wind chill of -21C, ideal conditions for a brisk #LongRun. Not so much for a nose that was barely moving. Brrr. #Running #RunSky #RunnersOfBlueSky #Toronto
