Went to Martin Down NNR in Hampshire today in less than ideal conditions for butterflies but had a lovely walk with Vic and we still managed to record 9 different species of which a few were new to both of us! Lesser Whitethroat, Grey Partridge and 20+ Swift through on the birds.

An early visit to the Forest of Dean this morning resulted in brilliant views of Wood Warbler, then to WWT for the Temminck's Stint. Stopped in the CWP on the way home and got my first dragonfly of the year with a cracking fresh Four-Spotted Chaser at Pit 132. #GlosBirds #GlosOdonata

Corn Bunting singing at RSPB Winterbourne Downs from the weekend. The classic soundtrack of arable lowlands in the late spring, mad to think they've undergone an estimated 83% population decline since 1970's... #Digiscoping #UKbirding

Great find Oliver! There were a fair few of us waiting on the Estuary Tower for it to float up to WWT but never got as far as us!

Yesterday the Puffin army returned, creeping closer and closer which allowed us to do a whole-island count. A staggering 13,174 were counted rafting, the highest number since 1934! Today, they made their first 2025 landfall, two days earlier than the 2013-2024 first birds ashore mean. Welcome home!

Hi Dave, I’m about as far West as you can get in the VC22 (live in current day Oxfordshire) I’m in SU29 west of Faringdon, South of Lechlade. After speaking to my friend last night he’s found the caterpillars around 1km from here in previous years so known to be in the area.
