Still shaking. Clifden Nonpareil in the trap this morning… managed some record shots on the phone and it then escaped as we tried to usher it into a takeaway tub!! VC22 #MothMatter #TeamMoth
I’ve had an absolute mare there Mark! Thanks for the prompt… rechecked the book and it is Male! Doh! 👍
And just like that, take an hours break to go inside and watch the last hour of the test and come back out to Clearwing sp. 3 for the garden! Female Raspberry Clearwing to pheromone, Oxfordshire (VC22)☀️🦋🏏 #TeamMoth
Six-belted Clearwing to pheromone lure in the garden this morning. My 2nd Clearwing sp. for the garden after catching my first Red-belted just over a week ago. VC22 #TeamMoth
Dingy Skipper
Green Hairstreak
Grizzled Skipper

Went to Martin Down NNR in Hampshire today in less than ideal conditions for butterflies but had a lovely walk with Vic and we still managed to record 9 different species of which a few were new to both of us! Lesser Whitethroat, Grey Partridge and 20+ Swift through on the birds.
An early visit to the Forest of Dean this morning resulted in brilliant views of Wood Warbler, then to WWT for the Temminck's Stint. Stopped in the CWP on the way home and got my first dragonfly of the year with a cracking fresh Four-Spotted Chaser at Pit 132. #GlosBirds #GlosOdonata
Angle Shades

Grey/Dark Dagger
Sallow Kitten

Hi Ronny, no problem at all. Ian
Blackcap singing in the cold morning air last weekend at RSPB Nagshead. #Digiscoping #UKbirds
Hoopoe feeding in a horse paddock in Marazion, Cornwall from my holiday a few weeks ago. Been going through my phonescoped videos and will share a few of the better ones over the coming days and weeks. #digiscoping #Ukbirding
Corn Bunting singing at RSPB Winterbourne Downs from the weekend. The classic soundtrack of arable lowlands in the late spring, mad to think they've undergone an estimated 83% population decline since 1970's... #Digiscoping #UKbirding
Yellow Wagtail sheltering from the cold wind this evening on Farmoor Reservoir. #OxonBirds #UKbirding #Digiscoping
We have one of these, it was our first moth trap last year, still going strong and has seen a lot of action in the garden at home 👍
Brilliant day at RSPB Arne, 50+ species including one of my main target of Dartford Warbler. Best views I've ever had of this charismatic species. #Digiscoped on Swaro ATX 95 & iPhone 16. #UKbirding
Not sure a day on holiday could get much better... Kentish Plover, Hoopoe & Alpine Accentor. Cornwall birding at its best - and a Gear Farm Pasty for lunch! Geddon! #UKbirding #CornwallBirds
Great find Oliver! There were a fair few of us waiting on the Estuary Tower for it to float up to WWT but never got as far as us!
First Wheatear of the year this morning, Chedworth Airfield after @duncan-dine.bsky.social found one up there yesterday. Digiscoped on Swaro ATX 95 with iPhone 16. #Glosbirds #Digiscoping
7 of 4 species last night in the small bucket LED trap on the back porch. Satellite was new for the garden though. #TeamMoth
Spring magic this Monday evening in the Cotswold Water Park. Great Crested Grebe "Weed Dance" part of the pre-breeding ritual. Digiscoped on a Swaro ATX 95 with iPhone 16. #Glosbirds #UKbirding #Digiscoping
That's a tidy morning's birding that!
Yesterday the Puffin army returned, creeping closer and closer which allowed us to do a whole-island count. A staggering 13,174 were counted rafting, the highest number since 1934! Today, they made their first 2025 landfall, two days earlier than the 2013-2024 first birds ashore mean. Welcome home!
Tidy!
Common Sandpiper doing Sandpiper things at Farmoor today. Always surprised how small they are when I haven't seen one for a while. Phonescoped on ATX 95 / iPhone 16. #OxonBirds
Hi Dave, I’m about as far West as you can get in the VC22 (live in current day Oxfordshire) I’m in SU29 west of Faringdon, South of Lechlade. After speaking to my friend last night he’s found the caterpillars around 1km from here in previous years so known to be in the area.
Thought I’d have a quick walk around the garden traps after dinner to see if anything was on the sheet….. Small Eggar! NFG and such a smart moth! A quick look on iRecord and looks to be infrequent here in VC22 #TeamMoth
