You get a quota for each question/item, but they are loaded separately so won’t be the same ‘paper’. You tend to be given half a a paper, so you might be marking evens or odds, though not strictly, depends how they split it. If you mark too many of one question in one go, it makes you swap.

We’ve gone for FS1 and D1. Mechanics seemed to be love or hate so we went for more broad appeal. Current 13s were dubious about D1 but now say they’re glad I chose it. Y12 this year all do computing so are into D1. I find FS1 helps them smash single maths stats out the park.

Nothing like a unique snowflake that you designed yourself to put the rotational symmetry into Christmas!

Thanks (secret) Santa! Obviously I feigned offence at why Santa thought I needed it. I’ll look forward to getting stuck in over the break @edsouthall.bsky.social

Awesome, thank you for taking the time to get back to me.

I know the square roots of 121. I know x^2 = 121 has solutions +-11. I know sqrt(121) =11 and radical121 = 11. When asked the specific question ‘what is the square root of 121?’ What is the answer (i.e does it mean the function)? Where can I go for a definitive answer & who decides?

#ALevelMaths back when I was on twitter, there were some lovely people offering mock oxbridge interviews to students, but I never took them up on it. Now I’ve got two great students who I know would benefit from the experience. Can anyone here point me in the right direction?

#ALevelMaths I’ve been asked about retrieval in our A-Level lessons. Does anyone do anything particularly successful that they’re happy to share? I’m nervous at the prospect of giving up any content time, but relying on them doing it independently means some…don’t.
Currently I set drfrost for it.

Series of questions where students need to find intersections

Series of questions where students need to find intersections

Always like thinking about how to get students to do something tricky by slowly building up the skill - I hadn't seen many "easier" finding intersections questions so enjoyed making my own! #MathsToday #ALevelMaths

I was thinking it was similar, as it shows they knew what they were doing & gave an answer I consider full and correct. Apologies if I’ve misunderstood.

For Edexcel, the idea that someone missed a grade because they put £32.5 not £32.50 makes me sad. They’ll be someone somewhere for whom it made the difference.

A level Maths 9MA0 - 13 August 2025 | Pearson qualifications As students receive their A level results this week, we wish to provide further clarity and reassurance about our A level Maths assessments this summer.

Official response from Pearson now grade boundaries have been set.

@alevelscandal.bsky.social not sure this really deals with points raised. Covers their back but Ofqual should have done more.

They’ll need something to do as in our place they do single maths separately, but have already done the single integration, so can work on these independently then

Thanks for these Paddy. Unless you object, my plan is to give them to my 13 FM students and ask them for full written solutions. They need practice explaining their answers/writing fully, so not giving them answers to check will be a nice way of forcing them to write convincingly 😆

Hi Tom. Thanks for all the updates & info on this. Out of interest, what do you think would be the best way forward in terms of grading? I’m struggling to think of any way that doesn’t have substantial negatives…

Tom I appreciate your efforts! I’m not on X, so it was handy for me that you reposted the long thread from there. I basically printed it off and took it to SLT. 🙏

Single maths we do 1st principles as well. It’s new, produces something easy to sell as ‘useful’ & is a good test of their expanding brackets/algebra, so I find sets the tone of the course. Recently not as ‘new’ as I do it for AQAL2 fm, but it’s easy to extend for those that have done it already

We used to offer AS as an option, so are only very slowly introducing some y13 content to Y12. I’ll admit though, it’s a super handy time saver to be able to give an AS paper as an end of year, and with ‘real’ grade boundaries, so we won’t go too far from that for now

A student came to me this morning still unable to log in. Having read your post I sent him a link and it worked, so thank you so much for the heads-up!

No problem, and thank you for the questions you’ve been asking; it’s really interesting to read everyone’s replies 🙂
