Sharing my ‘Virus’ brooch for the #britishpolymerclayguild dots and spots month. Made in 2017 when Melanie West, a US artist, visited the UK to teach her translucent techniques. The background is NOT blue! Light bounces off the blue side of the cane making the background appear blue.

A sculpture of a somewhat humanoid jointed robot sitting on a round wooden base. Approximately 8 inches tall by six wide by six deep. It smiles. The robot is mostly silver in color with bronze and copper accents. It is made up of cylindrical shapes and disc- shaped or spherical joints, and has a very industrial look, maybe late 19th century? Chest, head, upper & lower arm and leg pieces are all cylinders with visible rivets. It looks beat up and damaged. It sits on the ground, its left knee is bent and sits parallel with the ground, foot pointing inward. Its left hand rests on the ground behind that leg, helping to support it. The robot's right knee is bent upright in front of the robot, and it's right hand isresting on that knee. A small white bird sits on the upper of the robot's to fingers and the bird is looking towards the robot's very primitive face. There is a door or panel in the center of the robot's chest which is partly ajar. Inside is a nest containing blue eggs, presumably belonging to the bird.

Oh that kind of lining. I was imagining another layer like a curtain lining! Doh! 🤣
I’ve seen that misting the back of watercolour paper can also help to restore any curves to make flat again.
I think I will need to do this for my paintings, but I’m a novice. Any tips? What’s the lining?
